Where do you get your data?
I get my data from the play by play, shift/TOI tables, and event summaries that are posted on NHL.com for every game. You can find these pages by going to a box score for a game at NHL.com and clicking on the links under "Official Game Reports".

Data sources
Raw data for NHL statistics comes from the NHL, largely from each game's play-by-play and shift reports. Here's an example play-by-play report and shift report. Raw data for Olympics stats and World Junior Championship stats is from the IIHF. Raw data for CHL stats is from the three CHL leagues.

The Pens should have fought for a second round pick instead of acquiring Nick Spalling. He might work hard and have the ability to play all three positions, but he isn't that good of a player. He isn't worth anything north of 1.5 to me. |

A 2nd round pick isn't worth much though. At least you get a proven player with Spaling to aid in your depth issues. What is the purpose of a 2nd? |

31.1% of second round players have played more than 100 games. (Per Adam Gretz) |

OK Gunner, you don't like Spalling. We get it. Stempniak was not very physical. Think playoffs, Gunner. Playoffs. |

Agreed. Waiting for approx. 4 years to see if someone can reach the NHL isn't going to help now. That being said, a 2nd round pick included with Spailing and Hornquist would of been pretty cool. |

Spaling isn't physical, either. |

Stick him with Sid, get him 60 points, and trade him at the deadline |

Depends on your definition of physical I guess. Looks like most his goals are scored in tight. I think you have to be physical to play in there. |

Aggressive and physical are somehow tied together. Two separate qualities with the former being a better quality. |

If Sid could make dupuis and gibbons look like 1st liners, he could do the same with spaling. |

Question to everyone...Who would you rather have right now on your 3rd line? Matt Cooke at 2.5M, or Spaling at 2M?(I already know Bartley's answer) |

According to the heat charts, same thing applies in regards to Brandon Sutter and Brian Gibbons. Are they physical?

Sutter doesn't go all out like Gibbons and Spaling do. Sutter isn't aggressive, it's like he expects his limited skills to work for him. Spaling and Gibbons work for it. I'll take 10 of them all day long to work next to Crosby and Malkin.
EDIT: It starts down low. Some kids have Dads who've played pretty high up and expect that kid to be on the top line and number one in a shootout. Most coaches go along with this joke. Sutter reminds me of these kids. Nothing beats work ethic with a bit of skill. Never has, never will. |

What is the deal with Spaling & Sutter's contracts? Are they resigning with us or what? |

Well Spaling went to arbitration, which the hearings start next week. Sutter did not, so he has til December 1st to sign a contract, or he can't play this season. |

Dejan for a subscription (frick) website. Rossi for something else??? Ryan...pounce!
Sign of the times I reckon. Someone can start "just" blogging and end up with a page and viewership. Might not be a bad thing either. |
