It's upsetting that Franson is even viewed as a point producing Dman IMO, though maybe Nonis is making a brilliant move by somewhat 'giving' in to this, giving him 3.3m which has the appearance of recognizing his 'talent' so as to increase his trade value.

yeah i don't think that's what it is

Why is it upsetting if it's true? He led the team two years in a row in that category for Dmen on the team. Like it or not, facts are what count in arbitration. I imagine all the fancy stat guys love arbitration because it's more difficutl to monetize intangibles.

Fraser didn't cover $hit.

In short, I'm not ready to give up on Cody quite yet.

I long for the days - yearn in fact - for a coach that can come to the conclusion on his own that having a Phaneuf/Rielly Franson/Gardiner (or vice versa) PP1 and PP2 is the way to go.

It doesn't seem like rocket science to figure out mobile puck-movers work well in that type of situation with guys with big shots...which I hope no one is taking away from either Phaneuf or Franson despite whatever other warts their games have.

It just makes too much sense.

Fun fact: This arb award is still less thatn AAV of Jeff Finger's Leafs contract...

- Deeps27

Bang on, if Franson is kept he must be on the second PP unit, watching Phaneuf and Franson going back for the puck on a PP was painful.

that season Fraser had the highest on ice sh% in the league .. which in turn gave him a good +/- Leaf fans loved him ... once that lucky streak returned to normal ....you could see how bad a player he was.

we should never speak of him again

he also got his face smashed in and came back playing with a visor which was new and he wrecked his knee

to say that didnt have an impact is kind of unfair

but he was just a 6th - 7th journeyman.. i know what he was

If they can get back into the mid 2nd round in 2015 with Franson I think Nonis will have done okay...don't forget what the Leafs acquired him for...still a net gain.

the guy can score.....put him with a stay at home D like Polak and give him PP time

Gards Dion
Morgan Robidas
Franson Polak

that's pretty balanced with a lot of potential and ability to spread out the minutes
