I would say that the hit numbers are inflated, but I have no doubt he was one of the hit leaders on the team. It's funny because the previous season, people generally liked his play, but moaned about him not being physical enough for a big player. The guy then goes out and becomes one of the more physical D on the team...but now he sucks defensively all the while ignoring the fact that whole team sucked in that department. - vermie22
Gunnar, Morgan and Jake....not hard to be one of the more physical guys |

i'd be fine with him as a 2.5 million bottom pairing / 2nd PP guy
but after this season he is going to look for 4.5 million plus.. let someone else make the mistake |

i hope the leafs trade franson
if not i sadly feel they will bump rielly down to the 3rd pairing with polak.
which could be nice since hes still so young..but, id rather rielly play with robidas personally. |

I realize 'everyone' is a strong word. I take it back and switch it to alot, or most, or the general consesus was that we had to get him signed and people were thinking it wasnt possibleto get him and Naz signed. He defiantely got alot more after that season than now

If he could hold onto the puck, he wouldn't have to skate into the folks who dispossess him.
I'm not going to say hit.... we all know that the hit counters at the ACC are VERY generous |

I could see him getting shopped at the deadline, some PP insurance for a team looking to go deep. |

Gunnar and Jake definitely, Morgan actually impressed with his strength. Not a hitter by any means, but very good at squeezing a guy into a pin along the boards, especially at his age. |

I agree, I can see why he wants that though, guys like Kulikov getting big bucks, I think the deal was made so he can be shipped out with out much of an issue..hope its sooner then later |

Agree...Leafs don't really have much use for Franson right now. Plenty of other guys that can gather points on the backend. |

thats not even true..
once decent season with fraser basically covering his ass defensively, otherwise, a routinely healthy scratch before then
he was moved as compensation for a 3 million dollar salary dump
3 million.. thats it. - Dozzer
Fraser didn't cover $hit.
In short, I'm not ready to give up on Cody quite yet. |

It's upsetting that Franson is even viewed as a point producing Dman IMO, though maybe Nonis is making a brilliant move by somewhat 'giving' in to this, giving him 3.3m which has the appearance of recognizing his 'talent' so as to increase his trade value. |

As I said in the other blog, Carlyle is set in his ways of putting Franson with Phanuef on the 1st PP unit, every PP with those two together has resulted in a 2 on 1 against shorthanded.
Was a great chance for extended ice time for Gardiner and Rielly but it is looking as the same old garbage. He needs to be moved for the growth of the other two. - LeafMan
I long for the days - yearn in fact - for a coach that can come to the conclusion on his own that having a Phaneuf/Rielly Franson/Gardiner (or vice versa) PP1 and PP2 is the way to go.
It doesn't seem like rocket science to figure out mobile puck-movers work well in that type of situation with guys with big shots...which I hope no one is taking away from either Phaneuf or Franson despite whatever other warts their games have.
It just makes too much sense.
Fun fact: This arb award is still less thatn AAV of Jeff Finger's Leafs contract... |
