There was a swedish guy drafted way too late a while back..what was his name?
oh yeah Zetterberg.
Johnson outperformed 14th overall pick in 2013 Alex Wennberg, this kid is looking like an absolute steal! - GardinerExpress
Okay.. So because he's a swede he'll magically be good cuz he was drafted 7th round? I'm not saying he won't be good, or that I don't want him to be. Although I do think there's better prospects in the system. Like Verhage, Brown, Bibeau, Finn to name a few. There's a reason he was picked 7th round. |

I'll never quite understand how Finn fell to 35. Verhaeghe had a few things align to keep him from going earlier than the 3rd round I think. Not the least of which was having Strome play on the team for another year. May have helped to keep him hidden.
Hopefully both work out. |

I think he'll be good because he had a really great year. |

I'm kinda hoping the Verhaghe and strome thing is like the Yakapov and Galchenyuk thing was. Yak was thought of as the better player and carried Galy, but so far it doesn't look that way. Maybe Verhaghe is like Galy? |

I do love the internet, everyone is an expert. I mean, we trust a guy named French with our draft knowledge.. - BetterCallSaul
I'm not even gonna pretend to know the first thing about these kids, but to call a guy picked 26th a better player than a guy picked 8th, a few weeks after the draft, is just delusional.
A lot of mock drafts had Nylander going 6th to the Nucks, or 7th to the canes.
Not like this guy was a reach. He put up gretzky like numbers in the Under-18's,
so excited to see what he can do at the WJC |

If he played in the CHL we'd have a better understanding of how well he plays. Hard to judge guys coming out of the SHL.. |

you can throw that out the door now though. If there was a re-draft, do you still think he would be picked in rd 7?
Alex Wennberg (14th overall-2013) and him played on the same team. Wennberg got 21 points in 50 games, which is pretty decent for a rookie. Johnson got 24 in 44, which is insane for a 7th rd draft pick playing his rookie season. I think the guy has vaulted himself into the late 1st/early 2nd value based on his season, but he gotta keep it up or it wont mean much |

He outscored a lot of former NHLers. He has 12 more goals than Henrik Lundqvists brother, and that guy has played 134 NHL games and was a ppg player in the AHL.
I disagree with the above statement. its pretty hard to judge guys in the CHL because of the low quality of competition. Everyone drafted is pretty much a 30 goal scorer, or 50 pt d-man. I'd like to see Johnson in the AHL, a much better league to determine a players abilities |

really? Is it really necessary for me to say "compared to the other quality NHL Dmen" as a disclaimer? You have to be smarter than that. |

So most likely Franson is going to get traded, what will the return be? |

One of two options I could imagine;
Mid Round Pick + Workable Prospect with High Ceiling
Different Roster Defenseman with similar pedigree |

yes, 1 season out of his career...the rest...they weren't that bad.

Erik Karlsson...led the league...but Ottawa should trade him, right? Subban ahead of Franson on that too! And Reilly. - jerseyleaf
Problem with Karlsson is he won't keep that pace up forever, and when he isn't engaged offensively he is absolutely terrible. Kaberle 2.0 |

Not sure that comparison is valid. They (strome and verheage) didn't play together. Verheage didn't get as much icetime because of strome being there. When he finally got a chance to get some ice he exploded. |

Johnson may legitimately be the second best forward prospect on our team... Guy was one of the top scorers in a pro men's league. |

Do you know why he was drafted late?
He was hampered by an illness that was not diagnosed properly, it was then found out he was suffering from Asthma, once they got it figured out he did well after his draft. |
