Someone kept asking the staff if they could lick it when I was there.
- YzermanIsTheMan

I took my kids to the HHOF this year on a rainy Sunday in the spring.

Some guy and his family had made the drive down from Northern Ontario. He had a duffle bag with him - kept pulling out jerseys from different teams, pulling on the jersey and getting a photo with the Stanley Cup. He did at least 6 different teams while I was there.

It was an instant classic HHOF moment.

Yes but the discrepancy in revenue sharing was also due to those long term contracts so I would imagine that factored in.
- Yeti1181

No the cap was set according to a 57-43 split by the end of the CBA.
The contracTs didn't help for sure but evening the revenue split and lowering the cap was the main issue

I thought the informational value of the section of the "Pie that I have not yet eaten" was off the charts.

The information I got was that the pie sucked....or more would have been eaten...

Del Zotto is younger, cheaper and better on offense. Skates a lot better too which helps in getting better at playing defense.
- JohnFergusonJr

He is younger and cheaper, that's about all I like about him. I'd rather him at $1M than Franson at $3.3M but if they both cost the same I'd rather have Franson.

edit: for the record I'd rather have neither

Del Zotto shouldn't cost 3.3 million and I doubt he will. Plus, you could get something for Franson and Del Zotto is free to sign meaning you could end up with a comparable replacement, more cap space and either a back-up or a draft pick rather than just keep Franson.

neither should Franson but he does.

Del Zotto made $2.9M and is available because Nashville didn't qualify him. He isn't likely wanting to take a pay cut. And I'd rather the devil we know in Franson if it's a choice...

but would rather Grandberg on the bottom pair over either of them.

Can still get the assets without taking on a dman the rest of the league doesn't want...

Nashville is broke, of course they didn't qualify him.

Plenty of good players that at one time or another was in the position of "nobody else wants him" but some team took the calculated risk and it paid off. This should be one of those moments the Leafs shouldn't pass up on.

Its easy to say to do that but Del Zotto is probably looking for somewhere he can play in a top 4 role.

Gardiner and Rielly make him redundant on this team. I really don't see the point. Both have higher ceilings.

rather keep the spot open for a promotion. Granberg is ready, and Percy is very close.

Two years ago he had 10 goals and 41 points though and had a pretty good pace in the lockout shortened season. Franson's never scored 40 points and he's older too.

And that's just stats too. In terms of offensive tools, Del Zotto has more offensive ability given how he skates and passes.

- JohnFergusonJr

Franson has a contract, Del Zotto does not. Ergo, Franson is better.

PS: They both suck

Id rather see what Granberg can do in the Pre season. If hes ready than sure trade Franson but for now I would keep him unless some team offers something significant for him.

yah... go in with the assumption that the spot is open. If Granberg doesn't take it, see how he and Percy do first few months. Once one of them proves ready, trade Franson.

he can't skate, he can't defend, and he can barely pass.

What he can do is get a snap shot through on net, and skill players bang it in on the PP.

That isn't worth the money he wants, and will continue to want.

Those who think he had a "good season" in the lockout shortened season really don't grasp how isolated his minutes where. And you simply can not pay a bottom pairing dman $4M+ a year.

$3.3m they can stomach for 1 year because they have the space, but he simply doesn't fit on this team going forward.

Trade him while we can still get an asset back.

Huge exaggeration... And his minutes weren't isolated when it matters most, and he was the best d man in the playoffs...

Its not just Leafs fans, Franson is a mediocre to average d-man who is a overpaid by about .5-.75 million.

The only reason Wings fans wanted him was for his shot and RHedness.

Injuries happen. So do off years. Del Zotto is every bit as good, potentially better than Gardiner. They're the same age and Del Zotto has outproduced him for most of his career. Neither Granberg nor Percy have the same type of potential that Del Zotto has either.

I think Gardner has a higher ceiling than anyone mentioned here...
