If I was in Subbans shoes, I would sign something like a 7 or 7,5M deal for 8 years. I know he's worth more. But agreeing a hometown discount would be a major marketing statement from him that it's HIS team now, that he cares about the cap and want to give room for the GM to continue to improve the roster and make this team an undisputed contender. He would buy a lifetime hero status to the media and fans and would avoid all the criticism for the stretchs where is play will not be on top. That would make of him the obvious captain of this team for the rest of his carreer in MTL.
