Kreider is coming off his ELC and has played one full season in the NHL. Eller will get more.

Sign him 1 year 2.5M and if he performs this year give him a longer contract...or risk giving him 3 per for 4-5 years...

Do you think he'll accept 3 for 4-5 years? If so, I think it's a great deal.

He doesn't really deserve more than that with what he's accomplished so far...

I get it, but a 5 year deal can really cut into future earning potential.

personally, i'm not concerned about his cap hit. i just don't want to see him signed long term. i just don't see it happening with this guy. he has the tools, as we saw in the playoffs. but at this point, it's unlikely that you'll ever see him become anything more than a 30-point player.

What I'd hate is if they sign him for 2 years and he goes to free agency afterwards. At least they could use his "potential" to attract other teams to trade for him.

id prefer the team have the flexibility to just walk away from him. this is a guy who was drafted in the same first round as Pacioretty and McDonagh. he's not young anymore, not in the sense that you can still use the word "potential". i think what you see at this point with Eller is what you get, and it's not much.

He scored 30 the lockout season, then had that vicious hit in the PO's. He just turned 25, I don't think being a 50 pt player down the line is a stretch.

you need 3rd line players too, so long as you pay them as a 3rd line player
