I bet the Phillies end up only trading Burnett
- PhillySportsGuy

I think they might trade Papelbon because he is supposedly not well liked. RAJ may trade him just on GP.

If Snider owned the Phillies, they would have a less awful win/loss record, historically speaking.
- johndewar

They did win a Championship in 2008.

And I think they have over 10,000 losses as a franchise.

If you had to watch (and thankfully there's no recorded video for quite a lot of it) every loss the phillies ever endured, once a day... you'd spend something approaching 30 years doing it. And you'd never ever see a single win in those 30 years. Thats how many games the Phillies have lost over the years.

And then we entered the Amaro era... and it's been a gradual downhill journey ever since.

2008 - Won WS
2009 - Lost WS
2010 - Lost NLCS
2011 - Lost NLDS
2012 - nothing
2013 - nothing
2014 - going to be nothing

How does Amaro's track record stack up with Holmgren's?

If the Phillies went on the most tremendous winning streak ever, how many years would it have to last for them to become a .500 team over their existence?

Both failures when it comes down to it.. lol

However, I give Holmgren credit for getting the team younger in many aspects, and actually looked like he tried to improve the team. Amaro trades for more 38 year old guys, re-signs all of his washed up guys, and then rips all of his critics saying he knows what he's doing..... etc. It's almost like, looking from the outside, Amaro is trying to lose and sink the organization. At least it looked like Holmgren was trying to help the team, but was just a bit incompetent at doing so..

I find it hard to call Holmgren's tenure a failure considering the train wreck he inherited upon Clarke's departure. I find it very easy to call Amaro's tenure a failure when I consider that he inherited a team apparently stocked with talent and managed to gut it in a few short years.

I don't mean Holmgren was a complete failure. Amaro is a complete failure.. I just meant that Holmgren failed to put a cup winning team on the ice. Which is difficult to do, and even harder when yes, he inherited Clarke's mess.

Holmgren has been in the NHL since 1976 I believe. As a player, coach, and executive. How many Cups has he been apart of?

Amaro took over a team built by Pat Gillick that was on the verge of being great. Holmgren took over the worst team in the league and had them in the conference finals the next season. And in the Stanley Cup Final two season after that.

I would say Holmgren did better.

9044-10093 is their all time record, taken from Wikipedia

So, by virtue of simple math we get about 6.5 years' worth of 162-0 seasons.

It starts tonight.

The point was that a guy said that trading B Schenn would be a long-term mistake. I disagree, depending on the return. Whether or not some team would present a trade is a different story. To me, anyone in the NHL except for Crosby and Stamkos are available for the right price.

Holmgren undeniably did better. His team improved during his tenure (obvs there were mistakes and failures too), while Amaro's Phillies steadily declined from the Championship quality he inherited.
