This came at a time when Lindros was a Ranger Joe Thornton went on fighting rampage. I can't remember how many fights in a row but Thornton was winning them. Then Thornton decided to go up against Lindros, who at the same I believe was only a shadow of his form self. It wasn't even close. Streak of fighting for Joe Thornton ended there.

We'll never know unless something different is tried. I think Grossmann and Streit are two very different players. I felt they were OK but one doesn't exactly carry the other. With MacDonald and Streit being almost recent defense partners with the Islanders, why wouldn't you try this? Coburn and Grossmann have had success as a pair, Why wouldn't you try this?

Benching a young player, scratching a young player or demoting a young player isn't going to hurt him in the least. In fact, I think it keeps a young player in line.

Why break up the Timonen/Coburn pairing? Just to try something different? And Streit and Grossmann compliment each other well. Also MacDonald seemed to mesh well with Schenn. I really don't see what the reasoning was to try and switch the D pairs around. Other then just experimenting for no reason.

We'll never know unless we try. Timonen-Schenn were our best pair just one season prior to this one. Why not have Luke Schenn continue to take poitive steps forward?

The Pairs of Timonen-Schenn, Coburn-Grossmann, Streit-MacDonald have had success for extended periods of time. I happen to think if Timonen was used a little bit less and allowed Coburn and Grossmann do a little more heavy lifting, we might not have a more rested Timonen by season's end.

I was talking to you guys from Taco Bell earlier today on my lunch break. American fast foot is incredible. Canada doesn't have the Grillers the U.S. does.

See, that's where I disagree. If we're talking forwards, I wouldn't argue. But it chaps me when people try to say he's the best player in the league, and things like that. Ok, if he was the best talent/player in the game, you should be able to throw him in the goal and he'd win the Vezina, right? If he was the best player in the league, you could throw him on defense and he'd win the Norris. Is that going to happen? No.

Best FORWARD in the league? Sure, that's a valid argument. Best player in the league? Sure, at what he does and the position he plays.... but blanket statements like the aforementioned are what I find ridiculous.

But I'll never say he's overrated. I hate him... right on a level with Subban.. but he isn't overrated, and he is arguably the best forward in the league now, and for awhile.

I disagree with "Crosby is the best" as well. My pick would go to Toews. He is a more complete player.

Can Timonen play 20-22 minutes of good hockey every game? He will be 40 at some point during the season. I thought it was a great re-sign especially for the $, but I was thinking he would see less ice and not top pairing.
Wouldn't it be better to have him play less minutes too keep him in better shape as season progress's

We have to see. As Hextall has said, Timonen's level of play is going to dictate how many minutes he's going to play. First thing I think that needs to be done is to cut down on penalties. That way a player like Timonen can play less hard PK minutes.

I think Timonen may play less "hard" minutes. If the defense stays relatively healthy (big "if"), it would be nice to give him less PK TOI. If we can have a PK group of Coburn, Grossmann, Schenn, and AMac, and spot Timonen in every now and again (protecting a small lead late in a game, etc.) then he should be much more rested and able to play more minutes every night. I'm also not opposed to resting him every now and then if he's nursing an injury that he'd usually play through.

I was really hoping Hextall would have been able to add a player of top2-4 quality and I know those players are hard too find but that is what a GM does. The Flyers were close to beating that Ranger team last year.
Once Timonen was signed, I thought for sure there would be a move and it would allow Timonen too play a lot less. Maybe they do it the way you said with a lot less PK time.
