yeah, I tried to clarify that with the next post. He would be the centerpiece. He wouldn't be the only piece, but he would be the center.
- Hesh_

Then yeah, I'd pass. Like I said, he has proven nothing at the NHL level yet. I'm not saying Couturier is 100% untouchable, but he's accomplished a good deal in a young NHL career, so I'd want a known, proven quantity for him.

Nope. But like I said, he's feisty as hell and he has a freaking cannon, and seems to love to headman the puck.

He's gonna make a ton of mistakes early on in his pro career, but they're gonna be damn fun to watch.

Yeah, can't wait to see him in O&B.

So, you're saying he'll never be as good as Morin.

We're in agreement. I'm not attacking anyone. Just food for thought. I don't feel like Berube did everything within his power to improve last season but his job also isn't done. Who knows what could happen next.
- SuperSchennBros

Just to get a feel of what you're talking about specifically. What more could Berube have done within his power to improve the team last season, that he didn't do?

What moves did you realistically expect them to make? Gill and Gus are both gone.
- Feanor

Addition via trade... A top pair Dman. Not a all star calibre #1 as I know they are hard to come by. I wouldn't have been surprised if B Schenn would have been a part of some kind of package.
Who's to say that he didn't try? I just would have preferred an upgraded D

We all would have, but it takes 2 to tango. I'm sure he would have loved to trade Rosehill for Ryan Suter, but Minnesota probably wanted a 5th rounder, and that's just asking too much.

I think that, realistically, Morin will probably top out averaging about 70G/140A and +300 a season. Give or take 5 in each category.

Edit: He'll also probably earn a few Vezina nominations along the way.

That's really why I want him in Adirondack. As good as he is, he's going to make some mistakes as he adjusts to the pro game. And I want him making those mistakes in a learning league with a good learning coach. Maybe not even a full season, but I'd just hate to rush him and have his confidence shot in 2 years.

There will be nothing technical about them. But he'll top out around 600 PIM a season.

I think the Flyers kicked tires, considered their cap situation and decided that they were not going to get the piece they wanted without trading something they didn't want to give.

There really wasn't a massive upgrade in free agency. There were guys who play similar to players on the roster, who may have been slight upgrades or downgrades, but there wasn't a real number one defenseman out there.

I'm sure if there are injuries and some of the kids are doing well, they will get a shot, but I doubt they are counting on them to step in this season.

- Jsaquella

You are right about the FA market as there really wasn't an upgrade worth the money out there. I just thought Hextall would have made a " blue line deal" instead of the Hartnell deal. They probably did kick some tires like you mentioned, but I was just hoping for more than the resigning of Timmo

I think he could ha e tried different defensive pairs. I think Giroux and Voracek could have been split. I didn't think it was fair to make an example to put Lecavalier on the fourth line after one or two mistakes when I thought Brayden himself was prone to making boneheaded penalties himself at times...and I love Brayden Schenn. There were a couple guys I felt should have been dropped to the fourth line at times as punishment.

I think trading Brayden Schenn would be a long term mistake for the flyers. I almost think it would be beneficial to the team long term that he can play both center and wing. RJ Umburger flip flopped as a young player with the Flyers.

If you could get a legitimate 5-tool top defenseman under 30 where B Schenn is the centerpiece of the trade, would you do it (depending on the other pieces, obviously)?

First of all, I don't there is ever going to be a situation where there's never going to be any disagreements with anything a Coach does. I don't think changing the defense pairs around would've made the Flyers a significantly better team. And although I didn't agree with playing Lecavalier on the 4th line I understood it. It wasn't punishment for mistakes, it was because he wanted to play other players at Center, and Lecavalier was ineffective at LW.
