Do you know much about Carey...if so do you think he has a shot at making the Hawks next season (not the upcoming one)?

I honestly haven't seen him play. So I can't comment on him too much.

I think it all depends on how his game translate at a pro level. He put up close to a point/game at St. Lawrence University last year. But keep in mind he had the comfort of having his older brother on his line.

Will he be another Drew Leblanc or something more? Let's see how he fairs in Rockford.

Not true....He doesn't have a son named Igor...No relation.
The Makarov I'm talking about played with Calgary- 4 season and won 2 gold medals with Red Army Team....Drafted in 1983.

I understand the move completely as you seem to: you get a guy at half salary for three seasons or you have an easy trading chip someone else gets for one or two of the other seasons.

I really don't think anyone was burning their phone minutes offering Stan Bowman decent NHL players at half CAP hit...The fact he found TWO teams winning was good work.
I am sure they fely Steeger was gonna be able to come around by the Spring...it didn't translate that he won himself ice time or favor with Q for his efforts.
And the Pirri launch was more typical of one you will be seeing more of - teams will draft players, turn them pro, and then as the period of continual development reaches a crossroads, they first,
get some major league time,
and then second,
they get evaluated as "needing more time guys" or ones that maybe other teams like the Panthers are willing to continue to wait for.

I think Pirri was thrilled with that one way contract

That idea of a eventual one way contract (like some were saying Morin signed- Morin gets the major league money whether starting in Rockford or not) ) are more a way to satisfy that certain player's long term desire to get a chance.

I don't think teams were offering Stan NHL players of any value for a package of Olson and Pirri, save for Pirri.

This was more about a comfortable switch of bodies where both GMs knew the playerswell enough to take a chance to see if things worked out.

There was no Kesler type player avaiiable where if he hadn't the trade approval clause ALL NHL teams would be calling...it was Olsen & Pirri...
or
it was Kris Versteeg on the market.

So far no matter how their publicity departments sell it this trade was a minor deal where no team got a huge bump towards success by it being made...

Simply put Hawks got rid of 2 players who never going to play here for one reasonably priced vet that might contribute....Good deal. No market for Olsen and not much for Pirri either.
