Disagree. There is no guarantee if he's a decent prospect he will ever get a chance. Look at the current top 6....where will hayes EVER fit in? Maybe if they trade Sharp? Or if Hossa retires in 6 years?

What I think is the biggest shock is that people can't comprehend how somebody doesn't want to go to this organization. I truly think it has a LOT to do with the way his brother was treated. Hayes was in town during the Kings series, I believe, and that may have been the Hawks last pitch and has a take it or leave it offer on the table with no assurances.

- SteveRain

I've seen this a couple times and how was his brother treated poorly. He was given a chance on Hawks, two or three times, and from my opinion was just OK, scored some goals, but was a slow lumbering skater which doesn't work on this team and this style. Instead of burying him in the minors, they traded him to somewhere he could play in the NHL.

I really want to know how Jimmy was treated so poorly, I'm sure I don't know the story, but this position and excuse seems ridiculous to me.

Has he torn up the NHL since getting to FL? Maybe I missed that also.

Again why is he entitled? Because he won't go down to Rockford when obviously there is word that if he DID NOT sign he could and probably will, make an opening night roster? Every guy on this board would take the exact same thing.

The hawks system is loaded and is blocking a lot of guys. Maybe next year a few more spots open up.

All I am saying is I GET why Kevin Hayes is looking at ALL options.

I'm pretty sure guys who have signed here out of college or Europe have put word in they wanted to be on the roster or would ask for a trade OR go back home.

I can think of one current player who did this a few years back. his game is still a nightmare at times.

- SteveRain

I thought we established a blog or two ago that we only have overrated, over hyped, bottom 6, 5th and 6th Dmen prospects that really won't amount to anything more than that.

Figure it would be a shoe in for Hayes to crack the top 6

I'm late to this party - do the Hayes brothers share the same agent?

Jimmy was given opportunities to make the team, due to having average skill including average skating ability his one advantage to make the team was his size which he decided not to use. .

Tweet isn't the best description of what I'd want to do to Helen Mirren...

If we all take a step back from the Hayes situation, you'll remember way back during the playoffs was when Tracey Myers tweeted that the Hawks told here they are not going sign him.

Not that the signing would be tough, or he has other teams he was interested in, but not going to be signing him.

The contradiction to this is the Hawks paying for him to come out to see game five of the LA-Hawk series live.

At this point, i just wish it was Aug. 16th.

Let him sign with a team that guarantees him whatever he wants. I seldom see players who buck the system and get guaranteed playing time amout to much. Hopefully he toils in Florida playing for a cut rate team in front of people disguised as empty seats. Hopefully that compensation second round pick comes to the team with the intention of EARNING a spot on the team.

Is it realistic to assume that another team will take on Oduya knowing that he's been in a boot all summer? It would seem to decrease his value since he probably wouldn't be 100% ready for camp, even though the Hawks' reason for moving him (or anyone else) is to get cap compliant, not necessarily what they get in return.

Does Oduya's exposed injury, combined with his value to the team and who's coming up in the organIzation, change the calculation of who might be the more likely first to go?

Should be Leddy. Rozi too. If its stricly cap dumping then those are two guys i would be fine with losing for picks.

Some think that he cannot be traded until he is able to pass a physical with another team, and that a deal is done in principle.
I have never even thought of this aspect, and honestly don't know if a guy injured can, or cannot be moved while hurt.

I am trying to fire more speculation, because would not be looking foward to him leaving.

My personal opinion is Stan made bad moves by offloading Pirri, Olson and Hayes. Hayes was not dynamic but was a serviceable big man with good hand who showed he could score at the NHL level. Pirri may have lacked the defense some wanted to see but with both Hayes and Pirri on entry level deals, I have to believe you get more on balance than with one Verstink playing no D, giving you little O and generally being a non-physical turnover machine. Olson has a ways to go but I believe he'll ultimately be a serviceable bottom pairing D-man at least. Stan essentially got little to nothing for 3 of his supposed top prospects and is now saddled with Verstinks' contract moving forward.

But - he's not officially injured, because there is no LTIR in the summer, IIRC (or is it no IIRC in the summer, LTIR?).

I would think he could be traded officially.

Nope, and that is why I am so in favor of aiding Kev being the center of the hockey universe...maybe it adds MORE pressure to be the real deal?

Does choosing a partner parent club where your agent says "a quicker route to the bigs" is part of the signing ADD pressure on the late July / early August big anticipated signee?

Does the hockey world coverage of this event quit if he ends up down of a team's farm?

Don't know enough about the lad to make any predictions, but at past camps he certainly seemed to talk the talk and say the correct things in terms of commitment to becoming a pro hockey player.

It's going to be fun to watch him progress.

I pray the season ticket holders don't start the goofy booing carp you hear in others cities, when they say, boo Hossa because he left, or boo Keith because of past series where they felt violated by him.

If I had two hockey wishes that would be my second.
The first would instant rapture to hell for any one yelling, a goalies name over and over, especially in a tie game or when their teams goalie has let in MORE pucks.
I guess i hate it whether at any juncture, because most goalies are not just goalie breakdowns.

It is so rookie lame. "Crawford....Craw----fooooordddd!"

They need to concentrate on watching the play and learning all the beautiful parts to the sport that happen so nonchalantly at the pro level.

But instead the trying to take phone photos, text there friends to tell them they are at a hockey game, or check their e-mails....

I bet the Romans watched every second of the Lions & the Christians...

Hayes showed very little for a contending team. He was an average skater, he didn't play big and he didn't show he was better than other Hawk forwards. Pirri is a poor skater, he doesn't check, he wants to play the perimeter game, he didn't show he was good enough to play for a contending team and due to his contract the Hawks would have lost him this summer for nothing this summer. Olsen doesn't think the game well at all and while he may learn that he wasn't going to do it in Chicago.

All the more reason for Stan to wait until camp if Oduya ends up being the odd man out - more time to heal may make it easier to do a deal. At least Oduya's salary would solve the cap problem by itself rather than having to bundle a couple of players.

Unfortunately there is no silver bullet in this roster/cap space scenario or it would have happened a long time ago. Now it's a case of what will HURT the least rather than HELP the most.
