I think the Rangers are the same team. Pouliot spent a lot of time in the box in the playoffs and Boyle is replaceable. People hate on Tanner Glass but he is a great depth guy who plays physical and isnt afraid to block shots. I am also not convinced Stralman is the real deal. Rangers went to the finals with Nash struggling. If he gets hot at playoff time look out. Richards is irrelavent

A team who's success is predicated on Goaltending, D and speed just dropped a lot of slow legs and got faster, the core of this team Girardi, McDonagh, Staal, Stepan, Hagelin, Zuccarello and Kreider along with Hank have played a whole lot of playoff hockey in the past 3 years and they weren't carried by any of the players we lost, loved Pouliot, I wanted him signed before they actually did last summer and that line had great chemistry but $4 mil a year is not worth it

Still will be a good team, but not a great team. East was weak last few seasons, teams around them are slowly but surely getting better.

It's Tampa's or Boston's to lose next season for the east.

Ladies and gentleman, this is coming from a Flyer fan. As a Rangers fan, he took the words out of my mouth. This is what I've said since July 1st. Never count a guy out. I don't know Tanner Glass well but if AV is willing to take him on then it should work out (See Pouliot). Boyle was getting kicked at since he arrived in New York, he's always played gentle giant and I personally have wanted him gone for a while. Stralman is replaceable. He had one solid year. That year was a contract year for a journeyman defenseman. Boyle will exceed Stralman's one goal and 13 points by a wide margin. 18 points and only +13 in 106 games is far from impressive. Especially for 4.5 a year. Nash's play will hopefully improve. The Rangers can and will surprise all the nay-sayers, just look to October 2013.

Glass didn't replace Boyle, Stempniak is not here for Richards. We lost the two slowest guys and repalced them with guys that can skate. D Boyle will easily replace Stralman and at the same time the offense lost from Richards.

In my eyes the Rangers have even more speed and depth on the team vs. last year.

- MatzCT

Yup, they will be better offensively. Stempniak was a great deal at .800k as he can give you almost as many goals as Pouliot. They may drop off a bit defensively but not much.

Glass is not Boyle. Stempniak is not Richards. Moore is Moore. You lost Stralman. You aren't as good as the team that lost to LA.
- Panthers88

Why are you comparing Stempniak to Richards? I think the appropriate comparison is Pouliot, and I think theyre even, I actually think Stempniak is a bit better.

Is Lombardi as good as Richards? Not at each others peak, but Richards RIGHT NOW, I wouldnt say that Lombardi is that far off. A good season in the Swiss league, coming to NY to see a few familiar faces... Lombardi has a lot of positive reinforcement coming here.

Glass is no Boyle, however Glass is very familiar with AV's system so theres something positive there.

Stralman left, ok. We got Dan Boyle. We finally have a legitimate PP QB.

Are we as good as last year, no. But I wouldnt say were that far off, however on the flip side, its going to be a slightly different team.

BTW, it wasnt that long ago that Rangers fans wanted Brian Boyle gone, a few good defensive plays and suicidal shot blocking and hes a fan favorite. You want to tell me Tanner Glass cant get in front of a puck and block shots?

Glass is Dorsett's replacement moreso than Boyle's anyway.

You do realize Boston is screwed with their cap; still have plenty of players to bring back and almost no money to do so.

Tampa should be good but I'll wait and see if Bishop can do what he did last season.

The Rangers are going to be fine next season; East still sucks, aside from the Lightning, all playoff teams from last season didn't significantly improve.

Not a single player that left will be missed.

What the many Ranger bashers aren't taking into consideration are the improvement of players like Stepan, Kreider, Hagelin and Zuccarello.

The moves they made this week are strictly depth moves. The Rangers will be one of the fastest teams in the East; if not the fastest. They still have Lundqvist and a very good defense.

As much as I liked Stralman he is not exactly Bobby Orr. He is a steady defender that was a vagabond NHL player until he settled here.

Brian Boyle? Solid depth player, in the playoffs only, but a completely forgettable player on the whole.

Benoit Pouliot? Stempniak had equal numbers to him, last season, in what was Pouliot's supposed breakout season.

Brad Richards? Did anyone watch the last two rounds of the playoffs? The man simply doesn't have the skating legs anymore and despite his okay regular season is not irreplaceable either.

Derek Dorsett? No explanation needed.

Considering that the Rangers were up against it, cap wise, they had to make a decision; splurge on the UFAs or their RFAs.

As far as I am concerned they are much better suited to pay up on Zuccarello, Kreider and Brassard than Pouliot, Boyle and Stralman.

People love to fixate on the Glass signing rather than how smartly they went about their business and handed out reasonable, if not bargain basement, deals on just about everyone they signed sans Glass.

Dan Boyle was offered more years, and more money, with the other suitors but chose to sign with the Rangers for less in both.

Dom Moore was signed for a fair market price; probably could have received more on the open market.

Stempniak is a solid third line player, on most teams, and the Rangers got him on a smart deal.

Lombardi is a low risk high reward move. He works out, it's a steal, but if it doesn't it doesn't affect their cap space one bit.

With all the activity they still have enough money to retain Kreider, Zuccarello, Brassard and John Moore.

More than decent job this summer by the Rangers.

Richards gets shat on because of the contract but he is still a 50 point player while Lombardi was relegated to a second tier euro league last year. I hope he bounces back. You hate to see a career end due to injury, but I wouldn't put too much of your hopes on him.
