With the retirement of Ryan Smyth and the departures of Ryan Jones and Ben Eager to the open market this summer, not a single NHL veteran acquired by Tambellini remains on the Oilers roster today. Barely a year out from his five-year run as GM, that is a damning statement.
Just saw this and thought I'd share. |

I don't know....Tambo sucks dirty cocks and all but it was a rebuild. It didn't make too much sense for him to trade picks or quality prospects at any time of his reign of terror....but what pisses me off even more was the fact that he didn't get any quality in return for the few vets we had. I can't remember what we got in the Cogliano trade, but as it stands now, Schultz and Klefbom are are about the best Tambo brought us. |

No Justin Schultz. He was signed under Tambo's watch. |

I don't see why Hall and Nuge are a lock to stay together. Always struck me that Nuge and Ebs have the chemistry there and Hall is talented enough to play wherever.
Even next year, I might like to see what.

Hall-RNH-Eberle just seem to be at their best together. Don't think any other combination can really handle 1st line comp duty. I'd do
Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yak-Arco-Purcell
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Perron
Yak seemed to do fine at LW, and it'd be better for him in his own end |

I wouldn't complain too much....probably the best wingers for Draisaitl too.
eventually I would like to see Perron-Draisaitl and Yak together...that has shades of Lemieux-Forsberg and Kamensky written all over it. |

Tambo had VERY little hand in bringing in Schultz. Despite not even being GM, MacT did more for that it would seem. |

I don't how much of that is fact or speculation on your part. I know Mac T was involved, but from what I remember Paul Coffey and Ralph Kruger did most of the real selling. |

Imagine if Tambo was still the GM. Schultz would be getting paid the big $$$ |

That's a huge gamble - Reveen
Schultz Contract
Year 1: 3 million
Year 2: 3 million
Year 3: 4 million
Year 4: 5 million
Year 5: 6 million
Year 6: 6 million
27 million total, with 4.5 million dollar cap hit.
Is it really that big of a gamble? If he doesn't turn out and he is no better than a 3 million dollar player, you are overpaying by 1.5 million on the cap hit for the rest of his contract. If we sign a UFA to replace him, we would be overpaying by about the same margin (see the Nikitin contract).
If he does turn out, you are looking at a minimum 6 million dollar cap hit for his contract, we aren't going to be competitive in the next 2 years anyway, getting him at a low price for those years makes no sense. I would rather roll the dice and lock him up lock term with the chance of us getting serious value on his contract in years 4,5 and 6 where his salary will be high but his cap hit will be low. I got him at 50/50 on reaching his potential. If the Oilers see the chances of him reaching his potential is much less than that, I can see why they would be hesitant. If they think it's 50/50 as well I think it definitely worth the gamble. |

I don't think Schultz does that contract.
Turn the 3s to 4s and the 4 to a 5, then the 5 to another 6.
I think that having him as part of the core, and him knowing it was where the problem is with him. He sees other pieces of the core getting their money...after at least one breakout season, Nuge in his rookie year, Ebs with his 70+ point season, Hall better every year. He wants the same, but has not had his one season of breakout.
i bet that is where the team is wanting to hold back, They want that one year.
Bridge deal, 2 year 3.5M per.

It's a situation to monitor in the go forward. Breaking them up would make us that much more dynamic.
But that looks good too. And I agree, I think one of the oilers bloggers noted that Yakupov did just as well on the left side |
