No but he can't defend
- todd1a

His age is of huge concern to me. His play dropped off quite significantly over the last year or two. And he's not getting younger.

Granted, he did deal with some injury issues this past season. I like him a lot. I want to see him do well wherever he goes.

If by 'a lot' you mean 'two,' then sure.

1. Stralman drove the bus on the Staal-Stralman pairing. The numbers show this. It's pretty clear.

2. The Rangers roster isn't as good today as it was to end last season. It is still good enough to make the playoffs. This is an opinion. We'll see whether it holds as the season unfolds.

I can't see them making the playoffs but maybe they sneak in that's possible.

I have them as either 3 in the Metro or one of the two wildcard seeds.

A lot of people said that about Stralman, playing with Staal turned his style around, I think Boyle won't have a hard time either, defense form that group isn't a problem, Boyle adds to the offensive dimension AV wants

I like Dan Boyle a lot many wanted him back in tampa but just was not a fit here he can't defend good. He does fit better with the rangers then us for sure.

He's not TERRIBLE in his own zone either though.

Regardless, the Rangers already have 4 very steady and solid defensemen who play extremely well in their own zone. McDonagh, Girardi, Staal, and Klein are all really good defensively but only McDonagh has an offensive upside. Boyle provides that which Stralman could not.

Additionally, Richards was our PP QB. With him bought out, we needed someone to replace that. Boyle also provides that.

I understand you like your Stralman signing and I was sad to see the guy go, but please understand why the Boyle signing looks good from a Rangers perspective.

Henrik. Lundqvist.

Also, I see Nash rebounding this season. And a full year of MSL who while he won't be winning the Art Ross will still be more productive than he was during the regular season after the trade deadline.

Give Boyle the right minutes/sheltering and he can still be really effective. Will be good on the PP too. Age/injuries are the big concern.

No doubt, but that's what having a deep defense does though

That's what he brings he fits with the rangers! But come on stralman defends much better then Dan Boyle. He is also 10 years younger Boyle is not going to improve anymore.

Completely disagree. I think Pittsburgh has improved a ton. Better coaching. Better forward depth. Adding Ehrhoff was great. Goaltending still an issue though.

They're my pick for Metro champion. And I don't think it will be close.

Yep Staal was the one waived by 3 teams before Stralman arrived, I see where your numbers contradict that

We've lost Richards, Boyle, Pouliot, Dorsett and Stralman and replaced them with Miller, Lombardi, Stempniak, Glass and Boyle with a few other kids waiting to get their start in the league, farm system still has NHL players in it, this was a team that's success came with it's speed and while you may think they're "worse" they've gotten faster

Funny...Devils are a good possession team and miss the playoffs and the Avs are a terrible possession team and finish 2nd in the West. Maybe possession stats are irrelevant as fck.
- rangerdanger94

That's what all the leafs fans were saying last summer when the advanced stats people said their level of play was unsustainable.

The only player of value they lost was Niskanen who they replaced with a cheaper and arguably better player in Erhoff. They also got deeper up front.

I really don't think a player's past has any influence on how he plays today. Marty St. Louis was cast aside by the Calgary Flames. Does that mean he's not a potential hall of fame guy today?

Stralman was better away from Staal than with Staal. Staal was better with Stralman than away from Stralman.

I don't consider losing Neal for Hornqvist and Spaling a win

Increased depth. Scoring wasn't the issue for Pittsburgh.
