Man, you manage to get these Rangers fans going very easily.
There is a Lightning poster on nhl-trade-rumors.com, who gets the same reaction out of Leafs fans. They seriously flock to down-vote him or bash him.

What I am saying is... keep up the good work.

*while playing Martin Brodeur, the league's worst starting goaltender.

Schneider alone puts them in playoff contention. The same way Price gets Montreal in the conversation year after year.

I don't think being constantly out-shot is a recipe for success. That's all these stats say.

- Michael_Stuart

It depends on the quality of shots though. The Rangers last season often times put close to 50 shots on net every game...but the majority of them were from the outside and have no chance of going in. This inflates the possession numbers.

The difference between Montreal and New Jersey is that Montreal actually has a couple of gamebreakers like Pacioretty and Subban while New Jersey has...Jagr?

This.

And I think the roster is worse too. Losing Stralman, Boyle, and Pouliot hurts. I don't think the replacements they got are all that good either.

- Michael_Stuart

Boyle can't play defense like stralman period! He will help on the power play but he is going to stink on defense.

I think that's currently an opinion. It could very well be a fact, but we won't know until the season starts at least.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Cup finalists were the 1st and 6th ranked FF% teams at 5v5 close during the regular season. The other Western finalist was the 2nd ranked team.

My opinion is that the Rangers' roster got worse this off-season. Like I said, I look forward to them proving me wrong.

- Michael_Stuart

Yep I don't think I the rangers will make the playoffs if they do they will get the 7th or 8th seeds

I think the Lightning improved their depth and defense and will likely contend for the East if Bishop can repeat his spectacular performance.

I'm sort of with you on the whole shot quality thing. This is an interesting read though - http://nhlnumbers.com/201...g-chances-and-shot-totals - Someone has done far more research than yours truly.

Bishop will be good but he is not going to repeat last season he was insane. But with a improved defense he won't drop off too much.

Most NHL teams nowadays have an assistant coach sitting in the press box taking his own version of stats down that include things like quality shots/scoring chances which to me clearly indicated that the NHL's "official" shot stats that you see in boxscores are very inaccurate.

I read an article recently that the NHL will be implementing their own version of advanced analytics in 2015-16.

http://www.theglobeandmai...ticle18595761/?cmpid=rss1

They will be A LOT more accurate and precise than Corsi and Fenwick. Those advanced stats just throw me off because a guy like Brian Boyle had one of the worst possession stats in the league last season but every time the 4th line was out on the ice, the puck was more often than not in the opposition's zone being cycled.

Not to say Dan Boyle is bad but I'd rather have paid stralman 4.5 for 5 years then Dan Boyle 4.5 for two years. Boyle is 38 there is a reason the sharks dumped him.

The Sharks have a lot bigger problems than letting Boyle go, I know he's the reason why they always choke right?

If by 'a lot' you mean 'two,' then sure.

1. Stralman drove the bus on the Staal-Stralman pairing. The numbers show this. It's pretty clear.

2. The Rangers roster isn't as good today as it was to end last season. It is still good enough to make the playoffs. This is an opinion. We'll see whether it holds as the season unfolds.
