The eastern conference champions finish 8th? Well, because, corsi...right? Nice try. - mjh609
The Rangers winning the East won't matter next season. They'll still have to fight for a playoff spot just like last season. They are not a lock. |

I don't think the rangers are a lock for the playoffs Dan Boyle is a downgrade from stralman. With out the king in goal they are a lottery team. If they get injuries they have no depth to replace anyone. |

They haven't improved this offseason while teams like Columbus, Tampa and New Jersey have! I can see them drop down to 8th. |

Dan Boyle is an upgrade over stralman. Trust me. |

They can't possess it into the back of the net, major problem with these "advanced stats" they happen to be the only team in the NHL with an average age over 30, I like that Tampa is the sexy pick all the analysts are drooling over, those picks have usually fallen flat |

This.
And I think the roster is worse too. Losing Stralman, Boyle, and Pouliot hurts. I don't think the replacements they got are all that good either. |

They don't need to be a high-scoring team to win games. Getting Schneider 15-20 more games automatically gets them in the playoff conversation. I think they have a good shot to make one of the final seeds. |

Columbus did what? Hartnell for Umberger? Devils did what? 33 year old added to the Senior Citizen bus? what a dumb comment, we have a core so we don't need to make a free agent splash, this is the ignorant stereotype about the Rangers and the offseason |

Funny...Devils are a good possession team and miss the playoffs and the Avs are a terrible possession team and finish 2nd in the West. Maybe possession stats are irrelevant as fck. |

Hell of a move.
Devils got rid of Brodeur, who was an anchor.

On the whole, your better possession teams are your better teams.

I'll take a Devils team that constantly controls the puck over an Avalanche team that can't function in the defensive zone. |

And the Rangers got rid of Richards, anchor.....Boyle skated like he had one in his equipment but he did play well in the playoffs |

The Rangers also lost Stralman and Pouliot. Dan Boyle isn't the player he once was. Matthew Lombardi isn't going to be a savior. I expect that the Rangers will make the playoffs, but I don't see them as one of the conference's higher seeds. I look forward to watching them prove me wrong. |

Devils have been an elite possession team for the past 2 seasons and missed the playoffs both times.
The Avs were one of the worst possession teams in the league last year and dominated the West.
Possession is NOT the end all be all. I think you put way too much emphasis on it. It's a flawed and inaccurate statistic. |

The Rangers removed guys like Pouliot, Boyle, and Richards on offense who were all slow to extremely slow and added speedsters like Lombardi, Stempniak, and now have a spot open for a fast kid like Fast or Miller.
I don't think the Rangers ever truly had any intention of bringing Boyle back. AV didn't at least. Not with his system. The Rangers were arguably the fastest team in the NHL last season from top to bottom in their lineup and the moves we made makes us even faster. With AV's system, the new guys fit in a lot better than the old guys did on paper at least. |

Man, you manage to get these Rangers fans going very easily.
There is a Lightning poster on nhl-trade-rumors.com, who gets the same reaction out of Leafs fans. They seriously flock to down-vote him or bash him.
What I am saying is... keep up the good work.

*while playing Martin Brodeur, the league's worst starting goaltender.
Schneider alone puts them in playoff contention. The same way Price gets Montreal in the conversation year after year.
I don't think being constantly out-shot is a recipe for success. That's all these stats say. |

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Cup finalists were the 1st and 6th ranked FF% teams at 5v5 close during the regular season. The other Western finalist was the 2nd ranked team.
My opinion is that the Rangers' roster got worse this off-season. Like I said, I look forward to them proving me wrong. |

Nobody and I mean nobody has thought that or thinks that is the case, I for one wanted to resign Stralman because of age and keeping these 6 together but 1. Boyle is no slouch 2. Stralman has only done it for 1 team |
