Happy Friday, I walked 3 rounds of golf today. I should have drank more water on the course but instead downed a 6 pack in about 40 minutes once I got home.

He's "big" where it really counts.

That's because there's just a lack of humans that big and actually play hockey, there's way more midgets that just never make it to the NHL because there other attributes aren't strong enough to overcome the size disadvantage.

Hybrid rinks. Time to re-introduce skill into this league.

Why not just make the size of the rink the same as Australian Rules Football?

At this point, I'm just tired of all of the tweaks, changes etc etc which seem to be initiated every year. Why is hockey seemingly the only sport which has allowed this sort of thing to happen? (despite such a rich sports and cultural dynasty since time immemorial. After 100+ years, I understand that there is an element to ensuring the progress of the game, consistently interesting marketing ideas, and therefore rules/changes which would help to make the game more exciting. But this is now getting to the level of absurdity.

I mean, isn't the game @#$#@%#@% exciting now? do we constantly need to @#$@# tweak all these frivolous types of rule/management changes. Just let the players @#$@#$ play.

OK, deep breaths, deep breaths lol

Ok, my last mini-rant of the day. I'm just extremely fed up with all of the pundits and yada-yadas who insist on continually assessing/reassessing the various parameters by which the game is played. Leave it the @#@#$ alone and stop experimenting with bullsh*t

Just that it is nice if they are in or an opportunity to play in a defense lineup that doesn't lack size.

Exactly! We can't know how good they are if our bigwigs are afraid to utilize them

That is the challenge with all youth and opportunity with the big club.

Afraid to play them and then staple them to the bench for a little mistake. I am really interested in seeing how WD handles youth and opportunity. Hopefully, his style and demeanor will really help in their development.

That's the problem with prospects/young players that enter the league. It's a bit of a precarious balancing act with respect to giving them the opportunity and icetime, but yet ensuring that they don't lose their confidence if they do end up making mistakes. Also there is that unwritten rule which says a kid/rookie needs to pay his dues before he gets the opportunity for big-line minutes and situations. It's a bit of an archaic philosophy but I think nonetheless pervasive in hockey culture (and probably any other sport as well)

I once worked at a place that it seemed like any new employee was the best thing since sliced bread... until they booked off sick and the supervisor was struggling for a replacement, then they were sh!t. It is funny how mistakes are often overlooked if made by a coaches favorite, but if a rookie did the same thing, they would have to ride the pine after getting an earful.

I get the impression WD is a good communicator who is into goal setting and getting on the same page with his players in regards to expectations of play, teaching and development.

He sounds like the ideal coach for a team looking toward building through the draft.

I think it is great he has had success in the AHL but wonder what the dynamic will be with the an NHL team and it's varied players. He seems very level headed and straight forward.

What a stupid mistake Torts was...

Right on the money and nice analogy. I guess it's not exclusive to just hockey and this problem persists in all facets of society.

The Tortorella hiring was a disaster and, guess what? most of the buzz posters and, in fact, even general fans, knew that the final result could possibly end up a gong show. Check.

WD, thus far, has demonstrated that he's a good communicator, with both players and management, which I think is an important factor. Of course, we'll have to see how that translates in terms of a 'live' environment. Nonetheless I feel positive about his signing (more so than the Miller/Vrbata ones - ya, I know, don't get me @#$ started
