I think that Boucher would benefit from some time in the AHL. No real reason to rush him up, even if he makes an insane showing in camp this year. There's already a log jam and he'd get limited play time. Let him get a lot more time in the AHL, and get more accustomed to the Devils' system. We can always call him up if the team thinks he's ready, but there's no need to rush him.

Although I can't wait to see our new D-core in a couple of years... Santini, Gelinas, Larsson, Merrill, Severson

Im fine with Boucher in the AHL. Look at what Detroit did with Nyquist, worked out pretty well.

Florida make the cap floor yet? Lol

We have about $6.5 mil left in cap space. So.. not funny AND... yes we did.

Wow Florida just gave Kulikov a contract that (frank)s us hard on the Gelinas negotiations.

From their point of view its doubly stupid since they overpaid him AND gave him one too many years on the deal. Now if he wants to leave, he can walk as a UFA at 26.

- TheJerseyDevil1

Thank Nikitin for that one. And it won't matter, we have a TON of blueliners coming up that blow him away as a prospect. And by the time he's 26, we would have had him here for 8 years.. we'll know if we want to keep him or not. Personally, unless he changes his mechanics, he can walk now.

You have to develop properly. Detroit is a great example, but I always look to Tampa. I didn't know half of their roster before they were in the NHL scoring 25 goals a season. Nothing wrong with letting a player develop until he's 21, 22, 23... like we are doing now with Howden, Trocheck, etc...

Nikitin was a UFA not an RFA, don't think its fair to use that as a comparison.

I also don't think Kulikov is a good comparable to Gelinas. Kulikov is a former first rounder who has played in parts of 4 seasons and has over 300 NHL games played. Other than the lockout season he has played 58+ NHL games in each season.

Gelinas played 60 games last season and had 1 previous NHL game, I'd be stunned if he was signed for a contract that paid him any more than 2 mil per season and I'd be equally surprised if he got a contract any longer than 2 years at this point. I think he will likely sign a contract similar to Larssons for maybe 100-200K more.

Agreed. Gelinas doesn't have arbitration rights and has all of 60 some games to his name. I'd be surprised if he gets anything more than 1.5 for 2 years.

ehhh i have no idea what the lines are gonna even potentially going to look like till a trade is made and if everyone is healthy

one thing is for sure though, i highly doubt that boucher (he needs a full season in albany anyways) or matteau will be on the team (not counting injury call ups)

i wouldnt be too surprised to see a
zajac-jagr
henrique-cammi
elias-havlat type of combo

powerplay

clowe-henrique-havlat
greene/merrill-elias

dont think larsson will see PP time

I don't know if you guys have been keeping up with the development camp, but this Dudek kid looks pretty good. Possible diamond in the rough

Kid got 3 assists the last scrimmage and looks like he can create his own space

Will be awhile until we would see him, he's headed to BC with Santini

I have been playing with the potential lines also and wondering how they will look. It is exciting to have some good pieces to look at but where they will all fit is a mystery at this point. It will be interesting preseason.

I keep watching the camp videos and interviews and I can't say I am disappointed in any of the pics anymore we got some mean guys coming out of this draft class and Q seems like a solid player who might have more potential then other teams and scouts might of seen. I can't wait to see Jacobs and santini just battering the oppositions forwards in the future and guys like chattam and matteau running loose on the defense

Just too many pieces to guess at this point. I have (frank)ed around on cap geek's armchair gm for hours and still no ideas. First line is pretty straight forward. You also have Clowe on RW and from what I see we need him on the left side. Ruutu might fit on LW also. I must say we have the potential to really have some sweet lines.

With the team being older, if we end up with a fourth line of not really fourth line players such as Ryder, Brunner, Zubrus, Josefson, etc. would it be a terrible idea to give the fourth liners more ice time, as if we had two third lines? Would our third line players really be fourth liners on other teams, so now we really have a true fourth line? I am still confused about why we needed to lock up Bernier and Gionta so quick with so many pieces and cap space left. Time will tell.

Would be nice if ruutu decided he was going to play in Finland if he doesn't have a good showing to start the year or havlat to the khl or something but I am hopeful havlat will find success here back in the east and with patty

Totally agree. Some great stories. Q looks like he could be a great player for the Devils. Hopefully Baddock and Rehill can develop some decent puck skills. They look like tough (Frank)ers.

The future is bright!

Those who pay attention to the draft have been saying this is the deepest draft in ten years take it for what you will as this past draft is the only draft o can recall that didn't get hyped as the best or deepest in years so I'm hope full next years is deep with talent and we use it to get our more talented prospects since we seemed to got guys who will be character role players this past draft and that's not yo say they won't or can't be Kore but you get the point

I wanted bleackley so bad because he reminded me of zp from what I watched but can stick up for himself if needed he seemed like the best leader in the draft and I'm just basing this off what I got from the videos I watched
