Quick! I have a nice change of pace at 2 in the morning...

When do you think we will hear from Ray Shero? He just went silent after being fired. No new job, no TV interviews....

I wonder if what he told Poile about Neal before the Neal trade. Gotta imagine Shero gave his good buddy a tip.

Yeah I wouldn't go over 1 mil on the Gooch because he's just to big of a gamble. He's definitely not a better option than a healthy BB, and its a far cry that he'd be a better option than Duper. However, Duper could be one of the best 3rd liners in the league, so if Seto could come close to replicating Duper's production on the top 6, I'd say move him for the sake of moving Dupuis to the third and creating what could be one of the most well balanced top three lines in the league.

Problem is, Setoguchi cannot play in a bottom 6 roll, so if he doesn't produce he would have to be scratched. Wouldn't be a bad reserve guy if someone (I'm looking at you, Bennett) gets injured. I really don't want to have to resort to playing Downie or Spaling in the top 6. If BB can't stay healthy:

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Hornqvist-Malkin-Setoguchi

looks a hell of a lot better to me than

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Hornqvist-Malkin-Downie

Yea man, just not a lot of skill on the wings. Seriously, Bennett has some skill but when (not if) he gets injured, those top 6 wings are all glorified pluggers/grinders. No offense to them. They work hard, and Sid and Geno can produce decently with them ....and that is important. But non of them can create on their own. I want to see a true skill guy -- someone with great hands -- playing alongside Sid or Geno. That's why I liked Hemsky.

Not saying that booth would do well here but what he does do is present options and provide you time. If you're looking to deal Martin booth would give you time to wait for a good trade option and for you to evaluate your young defenseman. Now the risk is obvious with Martin it's injuries. If they've made a decision to move on I wouldn't let him get to camp as a pen

I don't think anyone posted on this story... http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=726510

Its on Pouliot being on schedule for the 4-6 month recovery. Gotta say, I'm in shock at how much faster the timeline for the recovery for a torn Labrum with the money a Professional organization can throw out compared to a College's level of resources. I was pretty stuck on that being an 8 month minimum injury, and the Pens were just trying to keep other teams on their heels.

Very glad to be wrong (hopefully) on Pouliot, and I assume Maatta as well with the recovery time.

You and I certainly do not agree here. Penner is way to slow to play on our top lines. Hit fit well with Perry and Getzlaf because they're both slow.

I do agree that we dont really have a spot on our third line, but I think a pick of Dupuis/Booth/Downie for the spot on Sids line would produce a very effictive top 9.

Downie Crosby Kunitz
Bennett Malkin Hornqvist
Booth Spaling Dupuis
Comeau Goc Whomever wins it
Adams

Notice I traded Sutter?

In a system based on puck protection and group breakouts speed isn't as much of a needed factor. Dustin Penner was a force in LA and in ANA. A Penner-Malkin-Hornqvist line would be incredibly tough for other teams to play against. I would love for the pens to take a stab at him.

Penner is a good player for the 10 games a season that he actually tries. In his days with Edmonton he would dominate one game and sleep walk through 5. Brian Gibbons is a more physical player, despite Penner being 6'4 240lbs.

That and he's not the kind of puck retrieval guy that would compliment Malkin and Hornqvist.

Just so many injuries and even at a million, we don't have money to spend on people we dont "need". I think this team is full of David Booth-swing type guys. Spaling, Dupuis, Downie, etc. I'd choose Penner over Booth if we were taking a flyer. At least he is of a different build/skill set than the rest of the team.

I just think if we add someone, it should be someone who is more of a sure thing as a top 6. Booth is a question mark even if he's cheap...

I like the Penner idea a lot. He is big and has a scoring touch. Imagine a guy like that with Sid. Now, I don't think he is known for being a defender of teammates, but I have a feeling he would love to play with some real skill. We could then keep Downie down on the third line.

If only we could get a quality Ek rumor on Penner to the Pens for under $2 mil. Ha Ha...

We will hear from him when him and Disco take over for Keith Jones and Mike Milbury on NBC Sports as the in-studio guys with Liam McHugh.

I agree with everything you said, however, if you look at the teams he has played on, there is only one where he was given an opportunity to excel. That was Anaheim. I agree with him being slower, however, the new style doesn't concentrate on speed as much as before. Assuming a lot here, if we picked him up and he played with Sid, he would be a space guy... someone to take up room. In doing that, he gives Sid and Kunitz the room they need to do their thing. It doesn't hurt that he can put it in the net. Maybe he gets motivated and surprises us. Bottom line is that he is a potential 30 goal scorer on that line and would be really cheap. His cap hit last year was $2 mil. I think he is worth the risk. I mean, we don't even know what Dupuis is going to be able to do. We can change Penner and Downie out from time to time.

I like options.

Zuccarello wants $4.5M, Brassard $5.5M.

Is Sutter better than any of them? $3.5M I find the max value I'd pay him.

Max value for us, is probably 3 mil, maybe a tad less. He did not file for arbitration, and with over half the season of him playing half assed, he has almost ZERO leverage.

Maybe they are fighting over the length of the contract? I don't think any of us really threw out the length of his deal hardly at all. Is he trying to get 4 mil, but for 5 more years, instead of just 3 for two years?

If he gets whatever was up his ass removed and plays to his potential... then factoring in the cap increases, his value in that scenario would be roughly 5 million if just kept for two more years of play at that level then resigned.

Poor Ray and Dan. Fired and banished from all the fun Pens social media and wiffleball.

I thought we might have heard something from them by now. A radio interview....anything....
