Sutter letang to sens for bobby ryan and a 2015 1st round draft pick - Palmer117
Who plays D when Martin moves on and if Ehroff decides to do the same? And Ryan as well? That essentially could be letang and Martin for a 1st? |

He's a RFA...I hardly call what he is doing right now...holding out. Holding out would be if he was supposed to be somewhere and wasn't because of his contract or lack thereof.
Jordan Staal should not be making 6M a year...
Letang Should not be making 7+M a year...
Toews and Kane...same...right???
I guess it's up to Rutherford to decide if he'd be missed or not. - icedog97
I disagree, I think 7+M for Letang is going to be a steal when you see the bloated contracts PK and Hedman get next. They are going to get PAAAAAAAAAAAAID. Letang is 2 years removed from a Norris Finalist... I don't get all the hate. |

My turn to stir the pot!
Ek suggests Tampa is interested in Phanuef. I don't buy it especially considering Tampa's defensive depth chart is already looking great.
For arguments sake though pretend Tampa is interested in a D-man and the Penguins offer up Martin whether it is today, tomorrow or the trade deadline. This is of course purely hypothetical but who do you want in return?
Tampa has a plethora of forwards both active and in the system so again who do you like? |

Ha! I hear ya buddy. I'll be a little more specific, reasonably who do you like/think would be a trading piece who isn't Stamkos, Hedman or Drouin. |

I like Connolly for Despres.
For Martin, I would want Kucherov or Erne.

I think Hornqvist is going to do really well with Malkin. Very happy with the trade from a team standpoint. Spalling is still the wildcard, but he has got to be better than what we have had before in the bottom six.
The chart says a lot though. Neal and Malkin played well, but they never had a netfront presence to disrupt the D. This is looking to be a better playoff team than previously thought. |

Connolly would be terrific. I enjoyed watching him play for the cougars (limited his play time was from injury of course).
Kucherov I don't know much about but all forward prospects are welcome at this point.
I haven't given up on Despres. I think it is time for him to get some serious play time in and on a suitable low cost bridge contract which will help a lot.

Isles blog has a rumor that Grabner is being shopped.
He could be good on the Pens, love his speed and ability. |

Despres has size and skill. I think he could be helpful in the playoffs. He was good against Philly and inexplicably pulled by Disco Dan the following game. Has a wicked wrist shot too. |

Remains to be seen. However size and skating and skill are what he brings to the table. he is a talent worth working on, IMO. I went to a Wilkes Barre game two years ago and booked an extra night in my hotel just to see him play. his lateral skating is superb. His wrist shot powerful. His size is remarkable. His judgment on when to dive in offensively is his biggest issue. Good coaching can fix that, IMO. I am a fan. |

If engelland could get it, despres could double that - drummer829
Are you talking about Engelland's UFA deal with Calgary ?
Totally different scenario....
Cause Despres is an RFA and has not even played a full season or a half season consecutively, he has no leverage in any deal. He'll get a 1 way deal but he won't have much say on the money at all. He has bottom 6 pairing points/ice time/performance. My guess is 900k-1.2 mil for 1 year. In a full season I fully expect him to blow his previous performances out of the water ala Matt Niskanen. |

I Hope Despres and Dumoulin can make Martin expendable next year. I'm a Big believer on Despres' game. |

Me too. He's had quite a few very good games. Some bad ones too. I'm hoping we see him get steady work next year. |

I wouldn't be so sure Hornqvist plays with Geno. I think he might be playing with Sid. Just a gut feeling since Neal/Iginla were put with Geno. Would it be a bad thing for Sid to take the two best wingers? |

One more reason to believe in Dumo/Despres right now! They've been seasoned in the AHL. Have some NHL experience. Are now 22/23 years old. It's time!!
I know I am that guy...I just really want to see these kids play for a while. Not just injury call-ups. |

Lets not forget about Harrington. He'll be our new Scuderi/Orpik out there. Part of me want him to make it this year too. |

Maybe I'm overconfident in them, but I would be fine if we lost Martin for a top 6 wing. I would do Martin for Marleau right now and not even blink. |

Im pretty sure that Hornqvist will start the season with Malkin, but the beauty of this year is:
New coach and system, and pretty much a new team to go along with it.
I'm really excited for this year to start. I really, really like the new look penguins. I can see a character to the team starting to develop, a whole business like vibe to it all. Best way to describe how I see the team now is; Patrick Kane. Came into the league all flash and nonsense, but now when you watch him on the ice, its all business. Sure you dont see as many of the highlight mouthgaurd hanging out of his mouth knock your socks off goals, but now when you see him out there is methodical and lethal.
I cant wait! |
