Recchi is back...

This strikes me as a bit odd. Werent there rumors of Recchi not getting along with younger guys towards the end of his last stint here(Sid in particular)? Whereas Guerin seemed to be well liked in the locker room.

"We've talked and I have seen the young guys and there are no problems at all. They are all great kids," Recchi said. "I don't think there were any issues. I am trying to help these young guys out and help them get through things. They know I am here to help them."

I mean, of course he is going to say that. Recchi might be difficult to get along with in a locker room, but that doesnt mean he is dumb enough to say he has issues with Crosby to the media.

Well the part you posted was speculation from a writer and the part I was posted was a statement from the source.

Also, as stated in the article, he only signed back with us on a 1yr deal at the time and was saying he would like to play beyond that. Saying he doesnt get along with Crosby and other young teammates publicly wouldnt have boded well for extending that contract when it was obvious that this was going to be Sid's team in short order.
There may have been nothing to these rumors at the time they came out--but the intriguing thing was that they did get out. Whether or not there was truth to them is a coin-flip.

Which ones are you speaking on? Not sure we have any young guys with top 6 potential outside of Kap and he's 17. I'm hopeful he makes the roster but realistically he probably doesn't.
And Recchi is the new player development coach

- dbell646

Top six probably not. I'd like to see guys like Sundqvist, Rust, Zlobin, Archibald, and Payerl get a chance though. Locking down the lineup in July, like has been done every year lately isn't a good way of doing things. These younger guys need to know they have a chance and having open spots is added motivation. Save the bucks for an add-on in February if it's needed.

I'd wager Recchi felt like a lot of us towards the end of our (good) playing days. He just didn't restrain himself. Younger guys came in and played the game a bit differently, and after the last five years maybe the wrong way.

I see maybe 1 spot open on the bottom 6 this season.

I am an Erhoff fan, solid player. Why did he leave Vancouver? He appears too valuable an asset to just let go.

Yeah, it really depends on if Kapanen makes the team. If he makes it there are no spots left on the roster or cap space for that matter. If he doesn't make the team, then Dupuis and Bennett are both probably in the top 6 and we have one potential opening in the bottom 6, assuming Adams is your healthy scratch most nights.

EDIT: Actually there would be a roster spot, but not enough cap space to fill another spot.

Recchi was my least favorite "star" from the early 90's Pens. Always seemed like a douche to me, even as a kid when I didnt know what a douche was.

Please rank these guys in order (who are still available) by who would most interest you to take a flyer on:

Penner
Booth
Malone
Setoguchi
Bissonnette
Mueller

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Mueller
Seto
Booth
Penner

Those are the ones from that list that I would consider. But none of them are a better top six option than Dupuis.

Malone is done. He was surpassed by everyone in Tampa. He was a buyout candidate before his substance issue.

Why is Bissonnette even included? So he can play 22 games where he averages 4 minutes of ice time and gets into a hugging match with Frazier McLaren?

I think he walked as a UFA and Buff gave him a mega deal, from what I understand he will be paid $800k for the next 14 yrs. So even though Pens are paying him 4, hes really making 4.8. So Pens could offer him 5 next yr and hes still basically a 6mil Dman.

I've met him on several occasions, and he's been nothing but nice. The one time that stands out to me, was after a loss towards the end of his career as a Penguin. He came out of the locker room to go to his car, and stopped and signed autographs and took pictures with anybody and everybody who wanted one. Probably hung out for like 45 minutes.

I just put a quick list together of everyone that we talked about on the board before. On every case it would be 1 year,1 million.

None are better than Dupuis (in the past) but Dupes is still a 50 50 gamble. These guys I listed could all play 3rd line as well. So it would just be increasing the odds of getting someone to click with Sid on a cheap contract. I do think most are better options than Downie on the top line. Again, any injury to Kunitz or Hornqvist will cripple this team.

How many people feel that a 4th line of any mix of tochett/fitzgerald/recchi/boterhill/guerin etc would have laid glass/adams/kobesew down! last year... and i mean now... as in age included

From what I heard its most likely a one way deal so I'm sure that had something to do with it
