I'm going to guess this is strictly a female issue with other females. Pretty sure there aren't too many male NHL fans upset about ice girls... if any.

Including "looks" in the discussion is nonsense that was used against first-wave feminism and it has been so debunked that I'm not even going to address it. It's tantamount to telling a woman that she is as valuable as a doctor because she cleans a doctor's house and cooks his meals. Bull! That is what you tell a woman that you want to dissuade from becoming a doctor. Considering "looks" in that triumvirate of human qualities is an excuse for "hot people" to be stupid and mean.

you sound like a pretty smart guy; youre ability to take your opinions and ideas and formulate them into big words all the while making complete sentences is a rather impressive skill and pretty rare around these parts of the internet.

having said that, the combination of your intelligence and close mindedness is a really dangerous thing. i dont think we need to get into a philosophic debate and quite frankly neither of us are going to change our stance on this but it scares me that there are people out there who think the way you do.

reading between the lines, i realize and even appreciate that what you are saying (and encouraging) is people have more to offer than just looks or boobs but your inability to appreciate other skills or features is what causes hate; its obnoxious and rude. if you think being intelligent is the way the world turns, fantastic!! go read a book. if some chick feels good about herself when drunken guys bang on the glass, who are you to say that isnt right?? is it hurting you?

go read a book on how to accept others; learn to appreciate that people dont think the same way you do. they dont value the same things you do...and thats ok.

Might be a bit of a stretch here... but would say almost all of the Ice Girls, are not even hockey players... just girls who like to skate, and a working a (frank)ING job. I havn't seen Hooters being criticized in the media lately, they are much worse. Not to mention, the wings are crap.
Slow news days suck on all fronts, giving people an excuse to make things like this an "issue" just to try and spur sales and create controversy.

I'm a fan. In fact, in general, their wings are better than their waitresses at many Hooters I've been to (like, 3-4).

As a long time Season ticket holder to the Isles (too long) who brings young daughters to the games (under 10).. I like the Islander Ice girls. They are all nice girls. They work at the public rinks during skating sessions too. I have been to other arenas and yes some have gone a bit over board (I will leave it there)... but the Isles ice girls can actually Skate (most of them were in the Figure skating schools/camps at ice works).. and I have been at a ton of Events for Season ticket holders and have NEVER seen them acting inappropriately.

Like Sparky some people will always hate it... but I am on board with anything the kids like.. and my kids love the ice girls. (sadly it's always the first Autographs they get on their Pink Islander jerseys).

The only people complaining are fat older women that cant even fit into the uniforms. Their husbands probably don't give them attention any more cuz they let their bodies go. Believe it or not, some chicks like to look sexy and be objectified. They like the attention. I know a few NFL cheerleaders, they work their butts off to stay in shape and they love it. They get paid pennies, but they would do it for free. This is nothing more than fat feminists that don't get any attention anymore.

This whole blog is ridiculous. For me personally I could care less about the ice girls. When I've been to MSG the people shoveling the ice between whistles are all hockey kids (all young males). At the coliseum it's all women. Yes they are dressed sexy, but who cares? My opinion is that it's cheesy but its not my kid out there.

This whole argument reminds me of pulp fiction and the foot massage being a sexual act vs a non sexual act. "Would you give your mother a foot massage?" For me, I wouldn't let my daughter do this job, as the outfits are obviously sexual for young ladies. But, that's just me.....doesn't make it right or wrong.

I don't think he was lambasting your daughter. You said it yourself, your daughter hated the ogling. Loving skating is great but the ice girls aren't just skating.

Ummmmmmmmm.... just sayin, but.... I'm guessing the entire concept of the ice girls is somewhat sexual. So maybe your daughter should have looked to join Disney on ice my friend and not be apart of something that is clearly about appeasing the typical male sports fan.
