Its not ideal to have Vinny on the roster in a 4th line center role. I have no issue with Hexy not eating money and giving up another asset (ie draft pick) for Vinny to be traded. He still does bring some good qualities to the table. Also, I would figure Vinny at least has some pride to come into camp ready to play because the rest of the NHL is basically stating "you are no longer good enough to warrant a top 6 forwards salary". I would hope that is enough of a kick in the arse for him to be in top physical condition. - ravishingone
Unless he has some chronic back condition that he can't rehab to 100%, I don't think there is any doubt that Lecavalier will come to camp in top physical condition. But can he stay there through the wear and tear of the season. The back is my only concern with Lecavalier.

What happened? Tell PSG all about it - PhillySportsGuy
well...we were getting beaten badly enough for me to already be in a horrible mood. 3rd period. guy drives the net from his left wing on a quasi-break away, loses his edge, plows into me and knocks the post off the peg by a good 8 inches. i managed to actually maintain my balance and didn't fall down, waited for the guy to get up, and get out of the crease, and then i pulled the net back into position, not realizing the whistle hadn't blown the play dead. meanwhile my team, unbeknownst to me, makes a terrible turnover out of the opposite corner as play continued, and as i look up after moving the net i see their player directly in front of me with the puck, without any support within a mile. i'm not in my stance, i'm not ready, i think the play is over. in a split second the guy puts the puck through my legs, i literally don't move, and then turn to my right to see the ref in the same corner as the original net drive, pointing goal. i then proceeded to flip the net upside down and chased him to the top of the circle saying terrible things. for some reason i was not given a penalty. neither official had ANY explanation after the game, and i further continued my verbal assault. all i was looking for was ownership on the (frank) up, but they couldn't even do that. i played in the next game directly after that, and was concerned there would be an issue with them, but it didn't happen. we won that game, and i guess i made my point, because i grazed the net accidentally bumping it off the pegs a hair each time and the blew the play dead on all of them. |

Thats a solid reason to be upset. I've always felt the best refs aren't always the ones who make the best calls, but the ones who will talk to you and explain why they made that call. It makes life so much easier when you have an official who will talk to you. Some officials clam up and think they're always right. No official is always right just like no player always makes the right play. |

they literally waved me off, stumbled through nonsensical words...and the one guy then started calling me names. it was really unnecessary and horrible officiating at every level. i was more angry than usual because of the lopsided score, and the timing with only a few minutes left in the game. i know one of the refs, reasonably well, too. the whole thing was bizarre. |

That's swell but I did look at the numbers, from extraskater.com going back to the 10/11 season. Including looking at CorsiRel%.
Lecavalier's CorsiRel in the 12-13 season is -0.8%. Just as I said, mere percentage points difference. And St.Louis CF% in 12-13 was 47.8%. The difference there is negligible, and not significant. His numbers aren't mediocre, they're right there with the team. It's a team number, not an individual number.
The entire team that played a significant amount of games in that season are all around that 46-49% range.
http://www.extraskater.co.../tampa-bay-lightning/2012 - MJL
Yep. I looked at the wrong column for St Louis. Stamkos's +2.9 is markedly better.
Still fail to see how mediocre numbers in line with a mediocre team means that he's not posting mediocre numbers. Further, if you look at the WOWY's there were 3 guys who had better CF% numbers when playing over 100 minutes with him than without him during his last season in TB
Spare us the flawed stats argument, because the data pool is pretty deep. It gets worse when you add in his Flyers numbers. Ignore it if you want, but a guy getting older and the majority of players doing better in terms of possession without him than with him over a two year period is pretty significant.
Maybe using it as a team stat will help-with Lecavalier playing a big role in 2013, the Lightning were at 47%CF at 5 on 5. Last year, with Lecavalier gone, their team CF% jumped to 51% at 5 on 5.

I used to always get mad at refs and give them poop when I was younger. During my Junior year of high school, I realized I'd be better off by talking with them and working with them. It's important not to call them out in front of people or try to embarrass them by telling them how wrong they were.
The best thing I did was go and talk to them during stoppages. I played basketball, so I'd go over and just say "hey, watch #3. He keeps tugging on my jersey as I'm running off screens."
By senior year, we had had many of the same officials. I had a good report with them and they'd even come up to me during timeouts and ask if they missed a call. |

What's disturbing is that he's had trouble outperforming the team average on a generally sub-average team, despite playing relatively easy/offensive minutes, and not having to deal with the tough matchups that all went to Stamkos/StL.
Also disturbing that he's gone from barely treading water to deep under water in a hurry over the past 24 mos. The guy was never a good possession player, but he's really turned into a gaping black hole. |
