Mostly because of Gretzky. Not a doubt in my mind that he would have been the best in the world anyway had he played in another market....what isn't known if he would have a Messier, Kurri ,Coffey or Anderson with him to help elevate his status as a champion. He also happened to play for an idiot owner who was in debt to ears and traded him for money.

Is there any doubt that Wayne Gretzky playing in California from 87 to whenever in the 90's wasn't the single most positive influence on the interest in the game in California?

- Jeropotato

Any Kings fan that would say otherwise if delusional. A lot of the fan base is around because of that trade. But there are A LOT of fans who came before that, which a lot of people don't or refuse to realize.

My question is why are these 2 fan bases still bashing each other when we could be making fun of dirty no cup winning bumholes to the north!!?!?!?!?!

Seriously (frank) the sharks, fans are way worse than anaheims

- canuckssuck9

Thank you! I'm 52. I was going to Kings games at the Fabulous Forum before there was even a thought of a team in Anaheim.
I don't hate the Kings,or most of their fans for that matter. There is a small minority who jumped in when the Raiders left town and the Kings changed to silver and black. I'm not fond of them but I don't consider those people hockey fans. As soon as the NFL returns they'll be selling their Kings jersey's on Ebay ASAP.

I DO hate the Sharks, though.

Knowledgeable? I doubt it... Sorry but I've been watching this sport since the mid '90s when I was 6.
- RobitailleFAN20

Since 6 years old???? Wow I wish I had you as a role model growing up. Why do you feel the need to "chirp" on every single Ducks post? You're not in the middle of a game trying to stir stuff up. You're a kid that wakes up everyday stoked to get in arguments on the internet. If you want to talk about how our fan base is supposedly not as good as your amazing team's, go back to the Kings pages. Hopefully someone will be your pal.

Go you, model Kings' fan.

Correct, I would go as far as to say Carolina, Tampa, Florida, Dallas, Nashville and Phoenix are effects from that trade.

LA's bandwagon is a lot more full right now than the Ducks' is.

Let's not bash this guy for starting this whole bandwagon.

The kid Wont let it go because I joined a few days after they won (who cares?)

Expansion in general can be attributed to the trade. But it could also just be because hockey was a growing product in the US. Owners saw a chance at gaining more revenue and went for it.

Yep have season ticket holders right in front of me and beside me that are long time fans.

I have great conversations with them about the 80s mostly.

Well, that other guy and I just don't and won't see eye to eye, and that's fine. He can say what he wants but that won't change the way I feel about certain fan bases and fans. If he thinks I he is the only one I've even mentioned bandwagon to he's wrong. And I'm not just taking about the ducks and their fans. PIT fans are pretty bad themselves because of that crybaby they tanked for and the league just handed them that #1 pick. To be honest, I've said WAY before this site, that ANA probably should have gotten that #1 pick but because PIT was in bankruptcy the league stepped in to give them Crosby

Because it pertains exactly to what you're always saying about ducks fans. Every time you post you inexplicably say that Ducks fans are the real bandwagoners. Then you go and prove that wrong by being one yourself. You can tell us that you're a lifer, but the facts are you showed up and started running your mouth two days after the kings won the cup. That is PRECISELY what a bandwagon fan does.

You're right, me getting on a website proves everything... This is how much you don't know. I've had a username on this website about 5yrs ago and I couldn't remember the password or username and the phone I used for it I no longer have. I got a new phone with a new number and I just so happened to make a username after the kings won. But you think you're SOOOO smart. So your theory about me being a so called bandwagon fan is rediculous, but I applaud you for trying

Attendance proves it. They also broke tradition in hosting a cup parking lot gathering instead of a parade LOL

- RobitailleFAN20

This is actually kind of awesome. Parades are lame, outdated traditions in general. Why not just throw a huge (frank)ing party in a big ass lot?

I don't think of the term 'Bandwagon fan' as derogatory. I'm sure a huge population of the NHL fan base jumped on a bandwagon at one point or another.

It does however, bother me when people will only support teams when they have success and disappear when they are struggling.

As for me, I jumped on the bandwagon back in 1993 and became a Kings fan mostly because they were the local team but in all honesty it was the game of hockey that I fell in love with.

What I didn't realize at the time was how lucky I was to start watching the sport when the Kings were having the most success they ever had to that point.

In those horrid years after, I was already hooked and fully dedicated to the team and became more invested in the team as the seasons went on and like 99% of all Kings fans in the mid 90's I probably had a bit of Stockholm Syndrome

Although in the end it was all worth it because there's nothing like success when things were so bad for so long.
