Those things arent half bad...theyre ALL bad, ha
- BlazinMike

Gotta stick to the classics.

Crunchy Tacos, Soft Taco's, Burrito Supreme...maybe an occasional meximelt.

Stray from those, and you're asking for trouble.

Seems to be the consensus that $6M is what you have to pay your starter these days. We were having that discussion in the Leafs forum regarding Bernier's contract next season.

- magmoo

Just going through some of the numbers, Bernier looks to get paid next contract if he's the Leafs chosen guy.

"What if we wrap a bean burrito around a taco? Dude...epic!"

I get the feeling that half of their menu was dreamt up by a couple of stoner employees in the wee hours of the morning, while the manager was on a break.

Nobody wants to trade Sharp more than I do, but I think even if we trade him now it will be a joke of a return. Hope I'm wrong. He WILL be traded eventually and next summer we won't get anything decent at all. At least they won't lose him for nothing like colorado did with stastny. That was a joke

Crunchwrap Supreme is the best item on the menu. And those Dorito tacos are something else.

I'll go on record predicting they will get a good return for their upcoming cap trade, assuming it is one of Leddy, Oduya or Sharp. Those players all have real value, and none have the albatross contract Soupy had. If Rozy, or Steeg (steeg won't be traded in my opinion), then yes, a "Rusty" level return. My biggest concern w getting good value is the lateness of their dealing. By this time of year, teams have to have made most of their bigger moves, and there are simply fewer teams looking for such a significant move now.

What the hawks really lack in their system is star potential on the farm. TT is considered "star" potential (I said "potential", don't hit me for pumping TT). The rest of the hawks farm system is a deep stable of solid. 15+ players who's ceilings are for the most part "solid player".

My perfect example is the rumor of adding a Curtis Lazar. I know nothing about the guy, but trust the stuff I read on this blog that he had serious top 6 potential.

Oate's previous assistant job was in New Jersey. Not exactly a hotbed for offence. What he did have was Kovalchuk to design the PP around. Dineen is clearly the better hire in this case.
- RickJ

Hey Rick,

completely agree about Dineen is a real good coach and as Four Feathers mentions will help out more with the development of the younger players which will be seeing more of with the cap situation forthcoming.

Oates though also did a nice job with the Caps as well with their power play which was ranked 2nd last year and had 68 goals...Hawks were 10th during the season and 7th in the playoffs.

Man, I still love that rumored Sharp/Leddy deal to Ottowa. Checks sooo many boxes of what we need to accomplish for this year and next.

There is value in a great contract. Zake Smith at $1.9m for 3 years is a golden contract. He is a heart and sole player, nice hands, always takes the body, will fight anyone, great guy in dressing room and loved by his coaches at every level he has played. Always thought the best deal for the Hawks was Smith straight up for Sharp. You can Richarder over a pick or a prospect, all that can be balanced. But, essentially the Hawks get something they need in a player and they get cap relief.

Crazy to take on a player like Eller who is a RFA and already looking for a big salary increase.

- spatso

Too ba that Ottawa trade with lazar would never happen, but Smith would be a nice pickup. Definitely need a prospect and pick back, even with our cap trouble. Sharp is still an elite winger. I wouldn't mind Matt Martin on the Isle with a kid like Anders Lee

Why doesn't anyone have an issue with Crawford's cap hit at 6 million? Is he really a 6 million dollar goaltender?
- LeftCoaster

I have a major issue with him earning 6 million but I'm also not sure what the options are.

What about chalupas? Is Taco Bell going to continue their sponsorship with the Coyotes and still have the flying Chalupa blimp at their games? You know, with the name change and all.

LESS any replacement costs: might be able to lose one of them and not replace him on the roster, but can't go with 21 on the roster.

Exactly. But that will most likely happen if they wait until next summer. Who knows about now? I would hope an elite scorer like him returns at least a bottom 6 guy and a great prospect.
