I found this on the NHL website and it surprised me because I thought that you had to have a minimum of 22 players on the roster at all times:

23-man Roster
There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit.

Then I tried to figure out how the waiver rules work as far as who has to clear waivers and who doesn't but they didn't make any sense to me.

waiver rules changed, i think only on going down now. the team that is waiving the player is still saddled with the 1/2 contract which i am thinking still counts againt cap.

Here's a trade proposal for every team in the East (if possible).

http://bit.ly/1t5Xw0c

These are all cap compliant and I took into account both teams needs. Some had to be a little more creative than Stan may be capable of.

Enjoy.

Ok, you got me!

I went and read each and every trade proposal and they were horse plop...and more importantly NONE keep the Hawks competive enough to win this upcomong seaosn except for:

Buffalo Sabres: trade Chris Stewart & Matt Hackett for Bryan Bickell, Michal Rozsival & Phillip Danault.

And you know what?
Then you send Chris Stewart packing when the Toews - Kane deal kicks in...

It looks to me like you spent a painstakingly high amount of time to balance salaries (just like these GM now have to do) but you got littel in tangible return.
The deal above you at least got the hawks a goaltender who some think is very erratic, and just sort jumps out and uses his reflexes & athleticsm to make that first save, but is woefully out of place at it becomes a rebound.

But at least you got a Hackett ot keep for an older warhorse, Bickell and a possible future in 2017 going to the Sabres...the rest, no thank you.

Did you notice where Bob Murray is bent on collecting a lot of power forwards with draft choices? This and past drafts. I read that somewhere. Looking past drafts, at the scouting reports you see it is true. Maybe Murray likes to become the reincarnation of The Broad Street Bullies. He needs an agitator like Kenny "the Rat" Linseman and maybe more meanness on his back end to earn the comparison to those teams.

Late edit: this would be good quiz for Wiz, tomcat and others who like the Entry Draft: name the five teenagers who signed all in I think 1979 to play as teenagers in the WHA. They were not all on the same team btw.

I would gauge what Oduya wants on his next contract

If he likes being here and gives us a deal, I deal leddy welllll before oduya

Oduya provides so much more than Leddy does and while he isnt a spring chicken, 32 isnt exactly old for a dman

Oduya will still be good for the next 3 years, the prime of our cup window

Im less concerned about what Leddy "could" be 6 years down the line

- FourFeathers773

I would have to get Johnny to write it blood and take $250,000 more.

That Toews Kane hit iS gonna happen and I am sure they think they can sign each and every other RFA like Saad & Kruger to deals but the Leddy departure you are talking about gives them "one less mouth to feed."

It doesn't solve things.

Sharpie at next years draft helps though....

One small bit of good news - Saad and Kruger are RFA's after this season, not UFA's.

I just drove into Chicago...three days.

South of Atlanta two hellacious rain storms, two cold night times in Chattanooga and Louisville in the Van sized mobile home. (I was sleeping in the buff...didn't expect day temps and night temp to wake my arse up!)

But here is the crazy scary part:

It is like 2:30 and we get on I-80 to the Dan Ryan and of course it is loaded with traffic but moving nicely....get to the dan Ryan and at one point there were so few cars, in front and behind me, I though it was zombie apocalypse or they were filming the new I,ZOMBIE TV show.

Get up to the levevated part of the ryan by chiantown and there is NO traffic...until almost the spaghgetti bowl (Circle interchanges with the Ike)...and even then it si moving. Get off on Lake street and Halsted north to my old block of North Daton and Diversey and is traffic, but MOVING!
(It made me glad I didn't go Skyway to LSD, to down town, to Fullerton up to Diversey.)

The biggest shock is I pull up almost in front of my friend's house on the 2600 blcok and there is a parking space big enough for my 19 mobile home and it one where no one can park in front of me....I can pull out!

iguess you missed this headline: Kane, Toews could’ve commanded $13.8M cap hits, says agent
- Topshelf2010

He was saying that's how much they COULD have gotten according to the CBA - 20% of the cap - not that anyone would have paid it.

There are no more re-entry waivers. The waiving team is not on the hook at all if the player is claimed.

Someone said Sharp isn't going to be on any panels at the convention. I hope that is something we can read into isn't he normally on one?

43-44% on draws, more goals than assists. Probably why most people (and allegedly some with the Hawks) think he's better on the wing.
- John Jaeckel

Be that as it may. He has played primarily as a center since he has been on the Hawks. Will he play wing? We will see as his career progresses.

FO 's can be improved. He has the hand eye coordination to do it. That will be up to him and to how hard he will work on it. And you have to give a kid who has beat all the odds to even be in the NHL the benefit of the doubt that he understands hard work. At least IMO.

Third line with Eller (C) + Shaw (W) >>> than third line with Shaw (C) + just about anyone the Hawks have/could afford to get (W)

Yes Shaw has played some center but he is perfectly suited to be a 3rd line wing and his numbers show it...when he has the added responsibility of center duties, his overall production goes down. And please don't point to the LA series when he centered Kane & Saad...they caught lightening in a bottle and it was awesome but Saad would not be playing with anyone remotely close to Kane's talent on any 3rd line. He can't play his style of game and be a top 6 guy, he just uses too much energy, which is a good thing.....as a 3rd line wing.

- dsav123

Strange that the two hottest players on the Hawks going into the playoffs were Sharp and Hossa. Guess who was their center.

And Eller isn't that good. He is woefully inconsistent. And Shaw put up 25% more points than Eller did.

Three years, Six years...not really worried. Right now next year is the focus. And 27 should remain here, because NO ONE can convince me that ANY of the players who would be projected to play Top 4 minutes (Leddy, Johns, Dahlbeck, Runblad, etc) can handle the job.

That's an awful big risk to take. Nick Leddy is NOT Top 4 material, he's a bottom pairing guy who can run some PowerPlay for you, but manning up against Ryan Getzlaf, Anze Kopitar and the other big bruisers in the West is asking for trouble. Hell, bottom six guys over-run this player in his own zone...Leddy v Getzlaf is leading lambs to the slaughter.

JMO, the only reason Kevin Hayes will not sign here is because he has a hard on for the organization because of the way his brother allegedly got wronged. I thought they gave Jimmy ample chances. Any kid would LOVE to play for this team eventually. So all that crap out of his mouth about getting a chance is just that! CRAP! Chalk it up & move on, put him in the category of 1st round misses .

yes, agreed. but the agents comments are in conjunction that the boys took a hometown discount. Spin city and a good marketing ploy. The Hawks got the highest paid players in the league. Now that means: the boys are marked men and some additional pressure. Good times

Hawks need Brookbank for regular season. He is willing to stand up for his teammates. Who else is going to battle the bruisers with no Bollig.
