you're dismissal of any type of financial reasoning with regards to the trade is contrary to several things i have read so agree to disagree. as for attendance, again, what i have seen, every year between 83 and relocation to WAS fell below average. well below average for the most part.
- Gary_B.

To be fair, their attendance in '94 was getting really high when the season was cancelled and they had the most home dates left of any team.

Feds built the war museum on Lebreton flats and a good chunk of the land was sold to a condo builder.

Carlyle sucks. End of story.

Kadri is 41st amongst centres for P/60. Seems reasonable for a 2C. He's in the same ballpark as Staal, Turris, Carter etc.

Bozak is 24th amongst centres in P/60, in the same ballpark as Datsyuk, Kopitar, O'reilly, M. Koivu and Backes... I see no problem.

Gardiner is one of only two of our Dmen who can actually carry the puck, and is on the ice for more goals for than against. We'll see how he does next year with increased responsibility.

Orr and Franson both skate like molasses in winter, and hopefully neither will return.

You read a book recently, I get it. I'm not saying there were no financial reasons. However, they could have kept him - they could afford him. Thinking ahead however, with a catcher of his age and games played, they were looking to the future and they received what they thought was a good return. Not sure if you saw Youmans pitch, but he was electric. And Brooks was an above average player. Fitzgerald, as I said, was not what they had hoped in the least.

As for the attendance, it's too much work to check. You obviously have the fact and it may very well be right. Figure they were close in 1987 for sure, but they also weren't on the very bottom and the numbers were often skewed by a few teams.
