Mike Richards also brings more to the table than just points. Strong defensively and has a better all around game.

Must be why LA almost bought him out.

Desharnais is signed for 3 more years. Richards is signed until the Yellowstone Caldera erupts.

He's a shadow of his former self.

and that shadow is still better than any center on Montreal

true. thing is, Montreal is pretty starved for offence, so a guy like DD is a much better fit in their current construction than Richards. if you're talking about Richards over a guy like Plekanec or Eller, sure.

Could just be that Richards has been relegated to that role because they have better player ahead of him. He seems to excel when more is expected of him...don't see why it couldn't happen again with a change of scenery...

(no, I'm not advocating the habs trade for him...but some other team might want to get him...say a team like the Leafs really could use him and his leadership...).

No because they have the depth to make that move.

You base those observations on what you've seen or his reputation?

Richards isn't the player he once was as the captain of the flyers.

Yes but his role in Philly was being the #1 center. His role as diminished as L.A is extremely deep. I still think he has lots of value. And I would take him in Montreal over any center we have.

You do realize he'll be 30 years old, and under contract until forever?

He's also a cancer in the room and hasn't scored 20+ goals since 10-11 season.

11 goals 30 assists and minus 6 last year....

Lars Eller numbers right there.

Thats a different story. I was simply implying that montreal success is on 2 players. While L.A is not. M.Richards was used as an example of their depth.

LA has a lot more depth.

They don't win the Cup without Kopitar and Doughty.

Why do you think he got traded out of Philly while in his prime ?

I'd take Mike richards of the last decade.
