Pretty much how the Flames rate their prospects .

All they said was that Hunter Smith'd be Brent Burns and that Brandon Hickey'd be Giordano...wait and that Johnny hockey could lead the league in scoring

He didn't really progress this year. I expected him to dominate and he was merely as good as the previous year...if that.

Did you miss the part where I said "and why?" Oilers and their fans, always only going 1/2 way.

Isn't it evident?

The flames will be held back by their lack of high-end talent/scoring prowess.

The oilers will be held back by their lack of stable defenders/team toughness.

Neither is particularly close (to rectifying this) so it's near impossible to say.

Okay I'll bite. We already have all of our future core. 6 quality Wingers, 3 quality Centers, 6 quality D-Men and 2 quality young Goalies that should all contribute when its time to make an impact in the playoffs (I'm not talking about getting bounced in 5 games of the first round).

Who do the Flames have that can compete for a championship as part of their core group that is already in the system?

Malarkey. We have the horses on our blueline at various degrees of development....the Flames are banking on Johnny Gudreau. Sorry, I like Martin Marincin and Oscar Klefbom's probability of being top 4 D-Men on a championship team more than Gudreau and Porriers chances of being strong top 6 forwrds, let alone NHL'ers.

Yeah, but we need one of those guys to be a #1 guy. Probably a "better than Mark Giordano" kind of #1 guy.

I still like our odds better than Gadreau being Patrick Kane.

Whether or not it will legitimately transfer to the NHL or not (even though he played against NHLers at the worlds ) JG has the potential to be patrick Kane esque. I've watch the guy play a few times, and once live at the dev camp last year, and he makes people look like they are standing still in much the same way Kane does. I'm doubt he will have quite the impact that kane has in the NHL but skill wise he has only up to go. He's got amazing puck handling and great hockey sense, his real test will be whether he will be able to move around the ice like Kane or St. Louis in order to compensate for his size. He has the potential to be a very very good player but he's walking a thin line and he's going to have to make sure he stays on it.

I didn't mean that as a slag mind you. I meant that as a praise of Kane. I've watched Drouin a lot live too and and the Kane comparable makes a ton of sense, but I don't see a huge chance that he gets to Kane's level of dominance.

I think Gadreau is a solid prospect but I'm never one to bank on a prospect to change a franchise's fortunes, which is what I'm talking about with Gadreau being the scorer you need or what Jero is talking about in terms of Nurse being our go-to dman.

For sure, there's a reason Kane is getting the money he is next season but like with any superstar they are used as models. I mean its all guessing at this point until you see them play. But it's hard not to get defensive with all the prospect trashing on this site haha

yeah the prospect trashing is the worst part about the site.

I know. These are all good players. If they don't pan out they don't pan out.

The flames have too many prospects in the system right now. Due to the depth they will need to ship them out for nothing. Reinhart or Granlund might be ready as an NHLer (3rd liner) this year but they will only get to play as injury replacements. Then in 3 years they will be stuck behind the Bennet, Mono, Backlund, Mcdavid/Jankowski combo. We need to get them playing so at minimum we can move them for a RW player or RW prospects

Hell yeah I'd take a chance on him. Just give him a big cheque for 2 years to entice him to sign then give him fair value after that if he does well.
