Eventually, I probably will. But this is a good question, thanks for your submission!

Did they? Pretty sure Tom Renny rode Gagner and Penner and Hemsky that first year and a bit, sheltering the kids to strictly O-Zone starts. They got some minutes, but they were easy ones, and that first year for Hall and Ebs were centered by Horcoff.

Sorry, I tried to put some more detail into my edit. They did not play first line role (agree with you) but a second line role.

Did the oilers do the Young Guns? I just remember in the late 90s that was the big advertising campaign. Val Bure and Derek Morris! I think Stillman was our captain.

Obviously that failed because the next campaign was the "Flames Forever" to try to keep them in Calgary.

I don't remember the campaign but after that it was the "C of Red" for about 7 years.

Now I have no idea that the advertising campaign is. Maybe its "We sell Bud instead of Canadian now!"

Yeah, he's actually about the least Douchey NHL I can remember. Always seemed pretty humble and pleasant. His brother on the other hand is the king of the douches.

Fine but the Fab 5 belongs to us....not that could use it anyway until you draft 2-3 more quality talents.

I think he's not just talking about money here though. I think what he's saying is that he's going to get paid, but this contract is important in that it will be determining where he is going to be spending the rest of his prime in.

I just can't see him mentioning that he's after money. This contract is obviously on his mind, and I think he's thinking it will be one of the biggest decisions of his career. Does he want to ride out a rebuild in Calgary on his ranch? Or does he want to go to a contender in his prime? No matter how much you love horses, a stanley cup should always be the primary goal for any hockey player. He can keep his ranch and come back in the off season and hire people to watch his horses (as I'm sure he has to do anyway during the season)

- Saskabush

I'm pretty sure he was talking money
in the interview (I can't remember the exact wording) but it did sound like he was looking for monetary compensation...said stuff like (these aren't exact quotes) "taking care of my family", "taking discount last contract, hope they take that into account for this one" "this will be my biggest contract"....

I feel like we shouldn't re-sign him prior to the season. Leave him unsigned and see how his year goes...trade him at the deadline and if he wants to cash it in big, then go to UFA....if he wants city over money, he'll come back and we'll be giving him fair market value and in exchange he got us assets back at the TDL

Many fans of other teams have bashed the Oilers constantly for not sheilding their young guys and rushing them too soon. Yet the current roster for the Flames looks very similar to the Oilers of the past few years with only Gio and GlenX for Vets. And no Englland doesnt count. Do you think the Flames are rushing a young roster? Or are they intentionally tanking (as the Oilers were also accused of all the time)?

Well wasn't that the criticism of the Oilers when we had Horcoff, Penner, Hemsky, Sutton, and Belanger?

Like they seriously had a good opportunity this year to start avoid the mistakes that the Flames and Oilers made (hold on to long). They traded Kesler but thats it. Now they picked up a good goalie who can win them games which will prevent them from getting that high draft pick.

Like IMO they should of not signed Miller and traded Hamhuis. Someone would give a 1st and a prospect for him definitely.

Maybe even look at trading the sisters to someone in exchange for 2x1sts and some prospects (maybe need to retain salary).

That way they could walk into next year with a high draft pick, 2 lower 1st rounders, a good cupboard of prospects, and two first rounders the next year. Rebuild done in 2 years and Healthy going forward.

One last one Colin and I will be be done:

As a blogger, do you fear these Q&A's reinforce a writers misguided self importance? In some cases writers tend to start thinking theyre more than just another fan with an opinion. Not saying you do, but it certainly happened to Richard Cloutier...how do you stay grounded?

- Jeropotato

and with Butler gone, we might actually be better off in the d-zone!
I know I started to warm up to him as he seemed to give away the puck a LITTLE less, but given the fact that all he could scrum up was a two way contract in the NHL (and just noticed he was our team's worst -23 !!)
