You used up your one allotted Corsi reference for the day. Its going to be a long one for you.

Do I still have Fenwick references available?

I can tell I'm going to achieve KenCan/Downeaster status soon.

Wait until I ask Dan if I can guest-write a blog or two with a focus on advanced stats.

I would listen to his pitch!

Are LGI and I buying the same car or Garth has 2 for sale?

If JT walks in 2018.... Strome will be there to step into the #1 center role.

It's interesting, it's just another way of thinking about things that makes the evidence a little more tangible and a little less opinion-based. It's not perfect and it's not the final answer on whether Player X is good or bad. It's definitely interesting and makes you think.

I don't understand it all and I won't pretend to but what I do know is pretty cool. If Dan wanted I'd be happy to do like a post or two a month using it, considering that it's only useful over a larger sample of games.

In regards to the bolded:

This is getting to be a tired and unfounded fan response to any athlete. So what, he was on facebook? Who cares? If you were upset about what he wrote that's one thing, but getting angry about him using facebook is nonsense. Athletes, despite being paid to play their sport, still have lives that don't revolve around training for said sport. They don't live in a tent at center ice or under a leg press machine. It's as ridiculous as people that flipped their sh!t on P Kessel for tweeting about fishing with his friends when the Leafs season was over.

- eichiefs9

1000% incorrect...athletes should be working out every waking second...in fact, sleep is for the weak!! there should only be waking seconds in players lives...wait, players cant have lives, they only are allowed to be athletes who work out half the and skate the other half, anything less and you are clearly not giving your all.

chiefs, you give these players waaaay too much leeway

Do you work for a municipality or in politics? Because those are the only two careers I can think of where ineffectiveness is tolerated at such high levels and all shortcomings are explained away with a constant excuse-generator.

The fact that Cappy is still our coach SCREAMS to the point that Garth has not done all he can to improve the team or is unwilling to bring in an respected, veteran coach who might oppose/question some of his actions. Most FA's (who are worth much of anything) won't touch the Island regardless of the money being offered. Boyle WOULDN'T EVEN DISCUSS a contract until just before July 1st, which he used as leverage with other clubs. Hate to mention it but he's also squandered three 1st round picks(Bailey is stagnant, Nino traded away for crap & Vanek/Moulson trade, which we LOST by a margin).

I didn't expect it all to be turned around in one or two seasons but if you look at the results(and that is the factor most professions are evaluated by) we haven't made much progress since he took over. He's done a good job at drafting(hard to screw up Top 5 every year) and there are assets in the minors(which he can't decide on who to trade) but beyond that he's been a failure. That's my opinion. You can like it or not.
I don't care. Most here would agree with me.

Why would they(well me due to ME knowing I'm included in it)have too? You're so over defensive of Snow at times to the point where it detracts from a lot of your posts. I think EVERY single person said it was a good trade when it happened. Is that not enough?

It's actually a very good barometer for judging Snow on his level of competence and his awareness of what this team needs. It may have not been relevant to the post(I didn't read back honestly) but it is what it is. It's hard for most(including yourself) to wrap their heads around keeping Capuano as coach. You may not like to hear that but it's the truth.

this is my only point...

we can point to comments that have been beaten to death. the topic of the convo was having the same expectations in year 1 as in year 7 of the rebuild.

cappy sucks...we know.

its not at all about being defensive; its about being honest. ive blasted garth for both the vanek trade (to montreal) AND keeping cappy and thats just over the past few months. in the meantime, i havent heard MANY of the snow-haters ever give credit when its due, other than the backhanded "its hard to screw up a top 5 pick" "compliment". i wont name names, they know who they are...im not saying garth is perfect, never have and never will, but i think the snow haters are ALOT more one-sided in their opinions than i am in mine.

Doesn't that prove the point that Snow dropped the ball on that one? If we know then why doesn't he? If he knows then why didn't he address it?

Some or most have given Snow credit... Just recently most here have said nice fetch on the 2 FA signings and moving up in 1st rd to grab Ho-Sang. Halak trade/signing and his RFA signings too. Shall I continue...
But credit is mentioned when credit is due....

I love stats but they can be broken down to the point where they are meaningless. Also hockey is such a dynamic game that many other factors can muddle the numbers. It's not like the baseball where the play is so controlled (and boring).

Good post. Kind of my point. I believe every "Snow hater" on here has given credit when it's do. Maybe we didn't give enough credit?

i think you were extremely critical but have recently been more objective in your opinion. youve recently been giving garth credit, despite how much it hurts you. you have definitely given garth a lot more leeway and time to see what he will do (especially during this offseason where, in general, it is silly to evaluate a GM when the season doesnt start for another 3 months)

I had a long winded response to your original post and we lost power at work . The jist of it was I dont understand how anyone can watch our defense from last season and be ok going into next season with the same? Sure, a lot of it has to do with coaching but there is a clear need for help on our blue line. One of the worst defenses ive ever seen in relation to this team. Halak is not patrick Roy. Even if he were his goals against would be destroyed in no time by the quality scoring chances our defense allowed. Barring a coaching change and a clear dedication to defense or one of our prospects we are hoping to make it out of camp is a Calder nominee in waiting we need defense. Having good forward depth and a decent goaltender is nice but you arent going to go to far in today's NHL without stability on our blue line. Our blue line is far from stable.

I've always said if i thought Snow did something I thought was good. It doesn't hurt me. We all want the same thing here. I've always been objective IMO . I've always said Snow has done some good and never had difficulty stating it. The problem has been there's been very little to exclaim about except for restocking our farm and prospect pool(which is a good thing not taking away from it). Unfortunately with Snow he seems to have a way of focusing all of his attention on one thing and neglecting others. It takes away from a lot of the good he actually does.
The Capuano thing is still giving me fits. I know it's having the same effect on you
