(frank).

Silver linings: they could be in the area next spring/summer. And hopefully they are so creatively frustrated/angry/pent up that when they get back to business without a (frank)ing lawsuit hanging over their heads, they just tear it up.

How's your son/daughter doing? (sorry, I forgot which.)

Son. Thanks for asking... he's ok. We found out he's anemic today which is probably a result of an iron-deficiency, which in turn is a result of his limited diet due to reflux. He's a pretty happy guy despite all this crap and he certainly appears healthy otherwise. He's overdue for starting to talk which is a bummer, but its coming.

As far as a new album... it's taken me all day to come to terms with A. someone from Tool actually being straightforward for once, and B. getting bad news about what I'd hoped was happening very soon. The longest pauses they've taken have always ended up being their best releases. They could be gearing up for what is their last album, so you know it's going to blow our minds out our asses. I can't wait.

I dig the stuff Tool has done that I have been exposed to, but they're a band I have to listen to more often.

I get the who nightmare of new albums...I'm a hug Van Halen fan, and the soap opera surrounding them has been infuriating over the years

I grew up watching the older movies as a kid. I loved the 3 Stooges, Abbott & Costello, Sinatra's movies, stuff like that. My mom took that and got me interested in the era. When I was in high school we did a thing about mass media and it covered the Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre broadcast of The War of The Worlds, which got me into the OTR stuff and Welles, particularly.

From digging up stuff on Welles, I found a stretch where he hosted Jack Benny's radio show for a month, which led me to becoming a huge fan of Benny and the other comics of the era that I didn't know as well as the ones who primarily did films.

My dad gave me a huge collection of OTR stuff that furthered me along. I still really enjoy listening to the old shows, despite how formulaic they can be and it led me to search the web for more. To make the short story long, that brings me back to the history aspect of it-finding old news reports and speeches recorded during that time that gives me the news as it was presented to the public back then.

Anyhow, the last thing I found, right before vacation was a slew of news reports dealing with D-Day. The stuff I found covers the whole day, from the initial reports from the German broadcasters being repeated by the AP guys and then the confirmation from the Allied command, and then reaction pieces from the man on the street.

The other thing I found at that time was a 4 hour stretch of radio news recorded the day that JFK was killed. I haven't really listened to it yet, but after a quick cursory listen to the opening 15-20 minutes, it's amazing how news coverage of that tragedy resembled the coverage of the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombers, nearly 60 years later.

Anyhow, sorry for the book.

Ahh, I get it, you learn the history so the context of the jokes and the references isn't lost on you. You appreciate the shows and radio programs that much more because you actually put in the time to understand what was going on when they were made.

That's impressive. No doubt you are putting in the work for your passion and making yourself smarter to boot. That's win/win.

Are you finding these older broadcasts online?

Dude, 3 Stooges f'n rocked. I could watch hours of that right now if it was on. Loved it.

There are a LOT of the older shows online, but the sites are usually labors of love or costs money. There's also a few companies that sell remastered CDs of the old shows, and I have bought a few of them, especially the shows where I simply can't find episodes.

Another thing that helped in the context was watching a ton of Looney Tunes, Disney and other cartoons from the era. Mel Blanc did most of the voices of the Looney Tunes and he was a highly sought after radio guy. Often you'll see a radio reference in the cartoon-for instance one had Bugs tormenting a department store manager who sounds just like the actor who played the Great Gildersleeve.

But absolutely the interest I had in the movies and my mom figuring she'd use it to teach me history was a huge impact on me

Supposedly, they have a new album coming out by early 2015. Who the Hell knows with them.

That's the one I am most familiar with. The first Tool song I heard was Sober, and it's an awesome song.

C'mon, let's get that boy some oysters and beans! Then get a few brews to wash that crap down.

Hope that it passes soon.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next Tool album, and I have very high expectations, because if I'm honest about it, 10,000 Days, though there were quite a few good tunes, was their weakest album to date. And I really hope that's not the trend as the band ages. (although I (frank)ing love the riff in Jambi and Right in Two is an awesome tune. I guess I'm disappointed I wasn't in love with every song on the album... Unrealistic, but that's what I expect from Tool.)

From what I read they had fights and bickering, then it was due to Eddie having health issues, then Roth said that they were working on new stuff and Eddie's kid was doing a side project and the guy in that with him said he heard some of what VH was doing and blah, blah, blah...

I did really enjoy the last two tours. Roth's voice is shot, and I miss Michael Anthony, but watching EVH play is great.

I know I'm gonna get eaten alive just by asking but here it is...

Should the Jets be interested in trading us Kane for Lecavalier IF they were to receive a high draft pick AND a high prospect in return? Lecavalier deal I understand isn't appealing to anyone but he is still a productive play offensive. I happen to believe this would be too much but would the Jets feel it's either too little or just not the deal they're looking for. I'll go with the second answer I gave.

I don't get Van Halen. I can't stand them at all.

Tool to me is the 90's Led Zepplin. They're great and might be massively underrated.

The Flyers would do that in a heartbeat, depending upon the prospect. Laughton?

I doubt they have any interest in Vinny. I think that one of three things will have to happen with Vinny.

1)he gets traded right before or during the season to a team that needs help with the salary floor.

2)he has a bit of a bounce back year, get paid his $2mm bonus on July first, which really drops the salary aspect of his deal down over the last 3 seasons and ends up getting dealt for a pick

3) He doesn't bounce back, draws no interest and the Flyers face a choice of eating money or buying him out and taking the cap penalty.

10,000 Days is my favorite so far. I do wish Danny was a little more front and center on it though. It feels like they took Lateralus and shot it with a cannon through Aenima. I can understand not liking it as much as the others. It is sort of a re-hash. I think if it had been an EP that didn't include Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days people would say it's their best.

PS: New Mastodon is pretty great too.

I think 2 is the most likely, and I've become ok with it in the past week. Though not in his prime, I was pretty psyched when he signed last year. Trying to get psyched up for him to have a good bounce back and show some of what he used to be capable of.

Amazing video (aren't they all? except Prison Sex.) and great song. Absolutely killer outro. The one thing that stayed constant between Paul D'Amour and Justin Chancellor are that they create the most enormous and emotive outros. All of my band's outros just sort of end in distorting the track. No clue how to write the end of a damn song

Seems about right to me. I like Lecavalier but if the youth moment is now, I'm fine with him going. I'm still unhappy with taking on Umburger at all. He is a good player, I just don't think he's worth his deal either.
