No, players usually get drafted that high because they are perceived to have higher ceilings. Time-table to the NHL is absolutely not why guys get drafted in the top 5.

But I will say that despite the strong young group they have, I don’t see any Pat Kanes or Toews there.

Yeah, I like that group of youngsters too. But adding Connor McDavid makes 15 to 20 teams in the NHL top teams NOW, if he turns out like he’s projected to.

The key to their rebuild was getting Toews and Kane in back to back years. And drafting wisely around them . Then they brought in the right pieces to put around them . We got one key piece in Reinhardt . Hopefully we get the next piece in the 2015 draft.

Yeah and we already have 3 1st and 3 2nds how much more do we need? It's not like we are gonna go from worst to 1st in 1 year. But we will have an elite #1 in either McDavid or eichle. Then we just need to fill 5 spots from moulson, hodgson, ennis, reinhart, stafford, Girgenson, grigorenko and armia. Think we can find 5 top end fowards there.
The whole point is buffalo is trying to build a team that will be a serious cup contender and not a team that hopes to squeak into the playoffs. Ur just made bcz I think the islanders are a team without any direction.

The Islanders have a pretty deep forwards group for next season with kids who proved a lot last season

They now have a legit starting goalie; if the Isles had league average goal tending last season they would have surrendered about 55 less goals, which would put them in a playoff worthy goal differential.

And their defense is only going to get better with their young guns coming through, a healthy viz, and de Haan being the real deal

They have plenty of direction
