I don’t think they would. I think most educated fans would say that it takes a lot of things to go right for that to happen. I think most educated fans would say that they have no idea either way if the Sabres will be competing for a cup in 4 or 5 years, because so much in the NHL can change in that timeframe. I will say this, it took Crosby and Malkin on ELCs two years to bring the team close to the top. It also took more than those just two. I wouldn’t underestimate what it takes to bring a team from the league basement to the top.

Nope , All players develop differently . It is not mandatory that you come into the NHL right away . He was not ready . Plain and simple . Hopefully at some point this year after some time in the AHL he is .

90% of fans say that of their own team. Some fans of some of the biggest messes in the NHL think they’re a player or two away. I’ve seen Sens fans rationalize it by saying the team is better now that Spezza is gone (despite their insistence that he’s an elite player up until he was traded). I’ve seen Canucks fans claim they have the best prospect base in the NHL and the Sedins still have a few elite years left, and they’ll turn it around and contend again this year. Those are two of the biggest messes in the entire NHL.

Who said 1 player away? Buffalo likes our direction with prospects like reinhart, Girgenson, grigorenko, armia, ristolanen, zadorov, Pysyk, McCabe. Along with the few 2 line talent of hodgson, moulson, ennis. We just need an elite prospect like eichle or mcdavid to really set off our rebuild.

No, players usually get drafted that high because they are perceived to have higher ceilings. Time-table to the NHL is absolutely not why guys get drafted in the top 5.

Yeah, I like that group of youngsters too. But adding Connor McDavid makes 15 to 20 teams in the NHL top teams NOW, if he turns out like he’s projected to.
