Same goes for Dupes. Should be on the 3rd but is fully capable of playing top 6 when need for a short time. - sammy87
4 Years is far from a short time. Duper has been good with Crosby. |

Yes, until last year. Where he showed signs of regression and was demoted off the 1st line (before the knee injury). Why am I the only one that takes that into consideration!? |

Lots of good information out there following today's camp. Always take these 1 day things with a major grain of salt. But it's comforting that a number of players showed promise and have physically added size since last year. Dom Uher seems to be a guy who could be the first guy called up in an injury situation to the bottom 6. Dumoulin is ready for the NHL (which we all knew already). Dea is becomming a more interesting prospect now that he got a little bigger. |

When was he demoted off the first line? He was still playing on Crosby's wing 90% of the time up until his injury. |

After not playing well enough, he was put on the 3rd line and Bennett took his spot on the 1st. It was only a short lived demotion because Bennett subsequently got injured. Otherwise, I'm confident he would have remained on the 3rd. |

Pascal regressed before his injury. When he's back It's in a third line role. |

I don't have the stats from Crosby and Kunitz at the time of his injury...but if my memory is correct, they were both scoring very well and played with him most of the time.
You base regression on points...but sometimes a player can be doing just fine and not score points...as long as his line does that's all that matters. 20 points in 39 games and plus 6.
Bennett had 7 points in 21 games and -2 |

Malkin should live on the right circle/half wall area. Crosby down low on the strong side. That should be non-negotiable. - Ryan_Wilson

2 35 yr olds flanking the best player in the league, 1 coming off knee surgery, but he was good there 2 yrs ago and got overpaid, that's why Shero is no longer here. |

I recall having discussions last year about how Dupuis wasn't passing the eye test and wasn't nearly as effective as past seasons and eventually he got demoted to the 3rd line. Take it for what you will. Tired of talking about it |

My question is whether or not Mr. Blogger Wilson has dusted off the old Letang for Eberle trade proposal haha. |

Dupes had 1 good season on the top line, followed by the lockout season which every player had inflated #'s. (all nhl seasons should be shortened) I am just missing this super awesome dynasty where Dupes was on the top line and the Pens crushed everyone? It never happened! Just like Gibbons was never this elite player, he had 2 good playoff games, but some want to make a statue for him at PIT next to Franco Harris. |

Yep, I love the guy. But he will always just be a band-aid as a first line winger. Okay, now that was my last post on Dupuis. |

How do you guys thing the Sutter/Spaling negotiations are coming? Do you think Sutter is cemented in as the 3rd line center if he signs? Might the new coaching staff see him as a potential top 6 wing (now that we have viable replacements for him as 3rd line Center)? |

Still up YoumeandDupuis?lol
Sutter definitely could get a few shifts on top 6 but I'd rather see him as our 3rd C. I Hope Spaling sticks there too. Goc for a whole year will be awesome on the 4th line.

It must be summer...
Just in case you were curious...here's what the 1992 Pittsburgh Penguins looked like when the won the cup
Stevens-Lemieux-Tocchet
McEachern-Francis-Jagr
Loney-Straka-Mullen
Daniels-Tippett-Needham
U.Samuelsson-Murphy
Tagliannetti-K.Samuelsson
Ramsey-Jennings
Barrasso-Wregget
and the 1991 team
Errey-Lemieux-Recchi
Stevens-Francis-Mullen
Loney-Trottier-Jagr
Bourque-Gilhen-
Roberts-Murphy
Ulf-Tags
Paek-Stanton
Coffey (PP only)
- icedog97
Ramsey, Straka, and Tippett were not part of the Stanley Cup champs in '92. They joined the team the following season. Daniels didn't even play in the playoffs that season and just two games the entire year. Needham played just five games in the postseason while Jock Callender played in 12. Tags didn't play any at all. You didn't include Jan Hrdina, Trottier, Bourque, Stanton, and Paek all of whom played in at least 19 games.

Sad moment, I didn't even get to say goodbye. You didnt change your name to Scuderi4?
I never sleep haha. He could really improve with better linemates but don't think he will ever be the type to put up much points. Not that we need him to in a checking role. Without giving much thought to it, I think he could potentially flourish on wing as a passenger with 87 or 71. I'd probably try him there before i'd try someone like Downie or Spaling there to be honest. |

He had some not so bad shifts on wing I thought but all and all I think he's the third line center. If there are injuries or if it looks like the lines need to be shaken up for whatever reason I can see him playing up on Sid or Geno's wing since we now have the center depth to make it happen, but I wouldn't count on it sticking.
Goc would be a serviceable 3rd line center, but could be one of the league's best 4th line centers on this team, and Sutter could, in theory, build on his playoff performance and bring the 3rd line back to former glory with stable and competent line mates. I don't see the coaching staff squandering that to run experiments. |

Good points. I imagine he will stay the third line center as well. The bolded part up there is the only hiccup....because right now that is why he might be a $4M player/shipped out because we can't afford him.
I do expect Johnston to have some out-of-the box ideas for line combinations. Will be interesting to see if he likes Kunitz better with Malkin....or putting the two-headed monster together more often. I think he'll be a little more flexible than Dan whose most outside the box idea was Engelland at forward. |

When I see B.Richards getting $2M and Ribeiro $1M I can't help but think $3.5-4M to Sutter is nuts! |
