I would give Ryan the money, I just dont want to pay ROR for how he has handled his contract talks.

Love him as a player, soured on him as a person off the ice.

No way SJ deals him ,i would love to see him here but we would be adding alot to make that happen

Don't know, only guessing.

But, San Jose is loaded down the middle, weak on the wings, shallow on D and questionable goaltending, a deal could be done. Especially if Big Joe insists on staying 3 more years.

Probably not, but they are going to pay someone north of 6.5m, might as well be for a proven sniper like Ryan.

I just fear they are going to move ROR for a collection of nice parts and they are going to lose impact in the Top 6 because of it. A Dman, some young 3rd liner, and a draft pick kind of package would be so disappointing.

You're looking for a SPEZZA type return on that guy?? Good luck...he's good, but not THAT good, especially given what the team acquiring ROR would have to pay him in salary.

Here's what happens:

We make Bobby Ryan a captain, watch him walk away in FA, then we all cry ourselves to sleep next summer at the realization that we lost 3 captains in the span of 3 years.

Ryan is a good player, but he's not as good as what he's asking for in terms of dollars. If we pay him elite money and make him the cornerstone of this team, were going to be spending a huge chunk of money on a guy who i don't believe has that extra gear when it counts. Were all too familiar with that.

This year is pretty big for the guy.....I thought he was OK last year ...but 7 mil a year OK ??? not sure.
I can see him ending up in another city....but if the Sen's can't get a deal done then they should recoup some assets at the TDL....no loss cituation for them.....unless they over pay.

With the way contracts have been going, 8 per year will be his minimum. I see him worth no more than 6.25.

and how will we not have cap space with the cap ending up around 75 mil a season? We do have moveable contracts and contract that can be bought out if need be to spead out the cap space. remember our owner spends to the cap andmore each year. People forget, we are under the cap now.

I absolutely cannot imagine anyone sees his worth at 8mil per season (if i'm wrong come contract time, I'll heat my hat). He's a good player, but he's still working out kinks in his game. If he feels his value is that high, he'll sign a bridge deal at 6.5-7mil per for 2 years and then cash in.

I think these figures are a little exaggerated.

Philly fans are (frank)ing delusional..

1) you won't have the cap space when he hits UFA. ( because your owner thinks he can buy championships, ( how's vinny working out for yeas )

2) NHL players don't care about hometowns as much as you delusional Philly fans
think.

Edit: great trade to get R.J Umberger.. Hextall seems like he'll turn the flyers into the NYI with those trades.. Garth Snow 2.0

young and you can have him locked down for 7 years if you negotiate correctly with him. Hes not a rental. around 30 goals, 60pts, league leader in take aways. Hes has a lot of value, and is worth up to 6m right now. More than 6m you are banking on him taking his game to a bergeron level.

Risk and reward with that guy.

Come on trade us Ryan, I wan ta line of Landeskog MacKinnon and Ryan

There are not many (if any) teams spending near the cap this year that will be able to clear $8m to sign Ryan next year. Cap situation is going to be a lot tougher next year. Remember the biggest change in contracting is not the demands of UFAs. It is the demand for top money by RFAs (ROR, Subban, Johannson).

Teams like the Flyers have been shut out of the UFA market because they can't even give away their bad contracts (LaCavalier). Toronto could not retain some good players because they did not have the cap flexibility. Chicago is likely going to get a small return for a good player like Sharp.

The much more difficult question is does Ottawa want to pay Ryan in a range that could run in excess of $8m?

- spatso

This is absurd, and false.

That's ridiculous. He's not in the Kessel/Perry/Getzlaf or Giroux class. Not even close. If he says he wants that trade him to some other sucker and use the money on a better player.

I agree with your assessment of his value, but UFA's do not sign bridge deals. Bridge deals are deals that are designed to bridge a player from his RFA to UFA years.
