I like our forwards a lot, They just have to find the right balance between forcing the offense and getting back on 'd'. It would be hard to put together line combinations that would be bad with the amount of talented forwards we have. The future is bright, thankfully with Hexy at the helm we won't likely be trading away young talent.

I just like the mix better with Giroux and Voracek split up. They're both dynamic guys that can drive offense and control the puck. Getting Schenn and/or Simmonds with one of them would help those guys a lot at ES and in turn likely be better for the teams as a whole

Yeah. I'm thinking that Hextall might be trying to add even more picks for 2015. He definitely has been encouraging to start.

i can't quote the post above about the shot, because the page is (frank)ed up, but i agree. i just thought it was worth posting since it just happened.

do you see hextall doing this by dumping vets and then playing kids in the vacant spots?

Here's what I'm thinking the top 9 should look like:

Schenn - G- Simmer
Read - Coots- Jake
Umby- Laught- Raffl

I think this provides good balance of size, grit, scoring, defense and complimentary players. Of course, we all know lines are jumbled all season, I just like this arrangement.

I've suggested simular lines all summer. I have no issue with trying Laughton on the third line. Mike Richards was tried there right out of gate during his rookie season. Voracek is the obvious choice to play with Giroux but let's not underrate what Simmonds is capable of or what Schenn could be. A Giroux, Schenn and Simmonds line does interest me. The wild card for me is Couturier. Now is the time to get that offense going.

If they can't move Vinny they could use a guy making just under $2mm to max out Lecavalier's LTIR exemption. I'd be open to Booth or Peter Mueller, on a one year, show me deal
- Jsaquella

Watching him in Vancouver I'll take a huge pass on David Booth.

Not necessarily. I think it might be deals similar to the Hartnell-Umberger deal, where he trades a vet for a vet that fits better and adds a pick. I don't think he wants to rush anyone, even if there's an open slot.

Now, hypothetically, if he's got Laughton tearing it up in the AHL, and has a deal where he can get a 2nd rounder for Umberger, maybe he does it and then slides Laughton up

Let me suggest Raptor Odin. Here's a picture:

Now, you might be saying, "Well, that looks like regular Odin." Trust me, it's Raptor Odin. But he's just too God damn awesome to have a Raptor head.

And here's a cool picture of Teddy Roosevelt:

Oilers, Edmonton.

Actually, the move that put the Penguins over the top was acquiring an old man.

I think edmontons problem is that they acquired a bunch of talent at forward without getting any defenseman. Couple that with their reluctance to trade any of their young talent and the unwillingness of free agents to sign there and it created a huge hole.

They were a classic team that went BPA in every draft but didn't use their assets to get better in other areas. They simply kept drafting top 6, finesse players and tried making it work

Good article....spot on with this excerpt:

Now, I don't want to come across as a Gustafsson apologist who believes he was God's gift to the Flyers' blueline. For all my criticisms of the Flyers not giving young players a true opportunity to take the reins and run with it, Gustafsson has to shoulder some of the blame for not being a very consistent player.

The point, however, is that the Flyers put both Gustafsson and themselves in a difficult position because they didn't know what to make of their best/most-ready defensive prospect, because they repeatedly opted to sign and play veterans over him.
