I think that is the point everyone seems to overlook. Teams evolve around a core group. You need 5 or 6 very good players in key positions. The entire discussion is incredibly false. LeBron played for Cleveland, he left them, they are a part of the rust belt and the economy is painfully depressed. This is a story of a tprodigal son returning to the roots, the team and the city he abandoned. All sports fans are excited by the story.
But it is purely fanciful to think that there is any kind of equivalence to the vague notion that one day, possibly, maybe Stamkos might come to Toronto when he becomes a UFA. Why do Leaf fans pimp themselves into becoming the easiest mark in the game. - spatso
You're trying too hard and are coming across as bitter, jealous and angry. Fact is Stamkos himself got the ball rolling on this one so it should be no concern to a Sens fan who thinks Pageau>Giroux if Leaf fans want to discuss or react to events Stamkos initiated.

ya but when the last time they draft someone of stamkos ilk?
1986 ish i would guess. - dmnted
Weren't lucky enough to have someone fall into their laps like that. Was that great drafting skills by Tampa to take Stamkos 1st overall? Smart pick by Islanders to take Tavares #1? It was just the obvious choice. Leafs have done alright with the picks they've had imo. Though I'm not a fan of the Biggs pick and questionable Gauthier pick. |

i don't know all of the issues, but isn't the main piece that the players don't have to pay income tax in florida, if that is true then they are saving millions of dollars on those lucrative contracts - Flyfreaky
I just read up a bit on it.. It's not a big difference apparently. |

Florida does not have a state income tax because our state makes so much money due to tourism... thanks Canadians. With that said players have to pay taxes in every state they play that has them. So they are saving about 14-20% on 44-45 games they play here in Tampa and the rat nest down south. I have read that a contract for 5MM in Tampa will save a player around 250-300K compared to NY during the Callahan dealings. I don't know enough of Toronto's tax laws to figure out the difference. Hopefully that helps.

As if Stamkos would want to come to Toronto
1. fan pressure is unbearable for most
2. not even close to winning a cup / not even close to making the playoffs
3. Leafs suck
4. Leafs suck
5. Leafs suck - Garnie
With Stamkos on the team points 2-5 change dramatically. |

Which team you going to jump ship too after Ryan leaves next year and Sens management still refuses to spend money?

thanks man, just checked that out as well and you're info is correct
so stamkos will roll anywhere from 13-15m in next contract and could save about 1m on income tax break in tampa, not chump change imo |

Perhaps the lure of coming to the leafs may have faded for quieter hockey markets where the players can lead their lives relatively without notice - MTL1

Speaking of pathetic and attention seeking, youre here crying and whining because Stamkos tweeted something related to the Leafs. Fans are justified to discuss it. How this is relevant to you is a mystery. Suck it up. He tweeted it, not us.
