Little did they know how good for business Gretzky would have been. Gretzky, Sundin, Gilmour and Muller up the middle in 96/97. Clark still kicking it on the wing. His retirement year in 1999 would have been interesting if he played for the Leafs, that's for damn sure. they're not terrified of the spotlight. you talk about them being treated like gods as if that's a good thing. they don't want that. they don't want to be hounded and gawked at while buying milk and bread. they don't want the excessive attention. they'll live with it if they have to, but they don't want to live with it to finish in 10th place. you won't see Canadian teams attract star players until Canadian teams start figuring out how to put a solid hockey program in place. and last i checked, not a single Canadian team looks like they're close to that.
