I really don't see the Flyers acquiring E. Kane without massive overpayment.
- Pixote Andolini

Yes, I am sure the price would be high but the Flyers top line needs " more" and RJ won't cut it.

I guess we will have to wait and see, but I still think Hexy has a trade up his sleeve for something.

Assuming VL is traded, and no player comes back in the deal, I am fine with STARTING the season with the following lines. The only move that would still need to be made is re-signing Hall, which should cost around 650K or so. Acquisitions, if necessary, can be made during the season.

Raffl-G-Jake
Umberger-Schenn-Simmonds
PEB, Akeson or Laughton-Couturier-Read
PEB or Rinaldo-Laughton or Hall-Akeson or Rinaldo
Rosehill

I guess it is worth a try to " START" the season with those type of combinations.
Raffl is not a # 1 winger, but he may be able to get a lot more goals playing with G and IF he can polish up his finishing skills.
I would still like a little more toughness on that first line,.... Which Hartnell provided

I was all excited to go to Prospect Camp today. Instead, I'm home just getting done consoling an 8 1/2 month old baby. Damn kids ruining all!

I just figured, it's better to see where they are come mid season, then decide if a move is necessary. If they are a borderline playoff team, I'd rather keep our assets, perhaps even move Timonen to a contender at the deadline and just go with what we have.

If, on the other hand, they actually look like a solid playoff team that can do some damage, then they can consider moving a pick or prospect to upgrade the current roster.

You still think VL will be traded? I would not mind seeing him get a chance to play centre on 3rd line, while moving #14 to 2nd line.

Do you see the Flyers " kicking tires" in regards to E Kane?

- 3flyerkids

I agree with Bill that Vinny will likely be dealt. For his inability to fit in other roles, struggles at 5 on 5 and injury and age situation, there's teams that can really still use a guy who can score 20+ goals

I'd like to see the Flyers juggle things more up front. I'd like to see Voracek & Giroux split, and figure a way to utilize Couturier & Read offensively

Hell he's AT LEAST a second line center on more teams than you think.

Nashville, Florida (yeah I know they all of a sudden have a bunch of centers, but my point is more skillset wise, as opposed to where he'd fit on the depth chart) Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Dallas, maybe NYI, maybe New Jersey, maybe Arizona...

Like I eluded to, most of those teams aren't realistic destinations for Vinny- be that the organization wants to see younger guys' roles expand, or cap restrictions....whatever it is- but my point is simply the guy still can play.

Like you said. A bunch of teams can use a 20 goal forward.

I don't think that'd be very wise. Giroux and Voracek work some serious vodoo magic together, and their talents are maximized when they're together.

On Couturier/Read, I wouldn't mind slotting Read on the first line LW considering he's probably the only one on the team that can keep up with G/Voracek. However, Read and Cooter drive play well together and shutdown everyone's top line, so it will be interesting to see how they could pacify that situation. On Cooter in a more offensive role, he'll probably get more PP time now that Hartnell's gone.

All your points make sense. But, I just can't see RJ being on top line. Giroux needs somebody on that left side.
B Schenn would be a better case to convert to LW as we saw VL could not adapt.

- 3flyerkids

Agreed. I know Schenn diddn't work great with Vinnie, but I think Jake & G would open up a lot of space for him, and vice versa. Plus RJ hasn't tried to mesh with Vinnie yet, maybe there is some hidden chemistry.

Voracek drives the offensive zone pressure.

Giroux drives the offensive zone pressure.

Split em up yo. Share the wealth of possession drivability on other lines. (Yeah that's a (frank)in word now)

I wanna see a Simmer-Schenn-Jake line

What does that leave G with tho? Raffl and Read?

I think the Coots & Read line looked pretty good last year. But I think if we have Vinnie going into the season, priority one should be utilizing him, not hiding him. At the very least, showing that he does have the ability to play to get some interest in trading him. I think Either Read or Voracek would be excellent to move the puck and feed Lecavalier.

Makes sense and is a viable approach.
I just dont know that the rest of their parts making splitting up your two most dynamic players, by far, onto other lines.

I'm just sayin', Giroux and Voracek are a badass tandem that don't need to get broken up. Moving Jake also spells that Giroux's wingers are most likely Umberger and Raffl (if we don't feel like breaking up our shutdown duo in Cooter and Read, Vinny's too slow and it's proven that he flat out sucks on the wing), which would probably be a good line for forechecking and possession, but doesn't give G anybody to finish his passes.

It's a tough call. Definitely Read, but as for what you suggest, I do believe that is what we'd be left with.

I mean, you can't put RJ up on the first line, and I don't think you can put Vinny up there either.

A Raffl-G-Read line has Giroux, the dynamite player; Read, the sniper; and Raffl, the tenacious grinder along with boards

Should be pretty defensively sound, too.

That leaves the 3rd line as RJ-Coots-Akeson

4th line: Belle-Vinny-Rinaldo/Laughton/whoever

That's the problem. Especially with Hartsy out...that first line would be pretty bare without Jake

We could give Akeson a shot. IIRC, he played on a line with G and Jake in his first NHL game and scored a goal, so I guess that's an okay sign.

I think G could handle a year with those line mates but the Flyers would really have to take a look at acquiring another player in the long run. Raffl and Read aren't top line guys in my opinion.

If we can move Vinny and have the cap room heading into next summer adding another top 6 winger would do us wonders.
