You have to get over the Leafs jealousy and the Toronto jealousy. You'll be happier if you just let it go.

Dion would have gotten more than that on the open market.

And every Leaf fan names Clarkson,

- RogerRoeper

Probably but I don't think he worth it... truthfully I don't think Callahan is worth 5.8 but he is a good talent and I understand why they signed him. Same with Dion, plus you have Elisha Cuthbert at your games... she's on my 5 women cheat list I have with my lady... LOL.

I wasn't going to name him but you did...

I put Dion in the overpaid category but a good talent.

- stammerman

I think that within a few years Dion's contract will look reasonable compared to some really stupid ones on the horizon.

It’s impossible to argue that this Lightning team isn’t close to competing for the Stanley Cup and much closer than the Maple Leafs.

Since the blog is about whether Stamkos would want to come to Toronto, take him out of the picture and choose the rest of the rosters/prospects of each organization.

Sorry, but it is not impossible to argue the point made above.

Probably not on my list, but she is definitely a worthy choice.

Goes back to my college days, Elisha was there for me in 24, Old School and The Girl Next Door... its a nostalgic pick but totally worth it.

Stamkos will be a Leaf.

It's not a great thought for Tampa or their fans,

But they Will back up the Brinks truck to his door and he will Bolt to the Leafs.

Stamkos is what the Oilers had in mind each time they drafted 1st overall. It's funny that Tampa did in one pick what the Oilers have failed to do in several picks.

"Tanking" is all about luck. The Oilers did not get very good "First Overall" players.

Well Hall is pretty damn good... RNH and Yak seem to be on the weaker side as of right now though. Systemtool's post made no sense at all... Glad you corrected him.

A Basketball superstar dictates the play so much more than a superstar in hockey. Lebron plays so much of the game.
- RogerRoeper

Err, then I guess my point has support? Toronto can't have their own Lebron, it is almost impossible in the world of hockey.

I want some of what that guy is smoking.

Everyone put down the Molsons and crackpipes for a minute.

Every team in the league wants Stamkos and why wouldn't they? It's safe to say that any owner or GM would mortgage the house to have him. Pure goal-scoring talent like that does not come along very often and Tampa was lucky to be in a position to draft him.

But let's look at a few facts that are not open to debate :

1) Tampa has a billionaire owner who is not afraid to drop Heisenberg-like barrels of cash to acquire or keep players. If Stamkos ends up leaving, it won't be because he didn't want to spend money.

2) Yzerman is a savvy GM - if he needs to free up cap space to keep Stammer, he will. He can unload players in lopsided deals like nobody's business. Just ask Glenn Sather.

3) Tampa is on the rise, Toronto is spinning their tires in the sand. For any player wanting the better shot at a Cup, Tampa offers that over Toronto - unless circumstances change in a major and unforseeable way between now and then.

4) For any player concerned about getting maximum money, Tampa has the edge again. Between Vinik's deep pockets and the lack of state income tax, it is easier for Tampa to offer a tempting contract. Throw in the fact that federal (non-state) taxes in Canada are higher than the US, the advantage becomes more pronounced.

5) For a player concerned with intangibles, Tampa has : gorgeous weather, gorgeous beaches, and gorgeous women in g-strings running around all over the place. Every winter I see tons of cars with Ontario license plates on them parked at the beaches here. There are reasons why Florida's tourism industry is one of the most lucrative in North America.

6) The "dance with who brought you" factor. Tampa drafted Stammer and he learned the professional craft here. He has already forged a lot of positive memories here and you cannot buy those.

7) Toronto has a reputation for being a fishbowl when it comes to hockey players and the players know that. Sure, everyone in Toronto worships the idea of Stammer coming home to stay, but the minute he commits his first turnover, those same fans will be calling for his head and tweeting death threats to his girlfriend. He won't be able to leave the house without wearing a disguise. Tampa has passionate fans, but he can walk the streets (and beaches) down here and not be recognized - there is value to normalcy in one's daily life outside of the rink.

8) Tampa's facility is state of the art and one of the nicest in the league. That's not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it can't hurt.

Even if he leaves, it's not the end of the world. It's just a game. The world would still revolve around the Sun and life would go on.

Good post.

Your are somewhat mistaken about the relative strengths and future of the two teams.

Nah, cuz Stevie Y will be replacing Nonis when Babcock becomes Leaf coach next year. Stevie will want to keep those Leaf prospects for himself when he gets here.
- Woderwick

yzerman would never work for the leafs lol! he wants a owner to hire him and let him run his team he has that in vinik.
