Oh... Awkward.
Here's the thing... There is simply no way that Bozak was going to determine where Kessel played. - Big_Lightnin
Agreed but Bozak could have determined where kessel wasn't going to play.. |

How so?
Core guys....Kessel, JVR, Kadri, Bozak, Phaneuf, Bernier, Gardiner, Rielly, Lupul....
None through free agency. - systemtool
A core group of guys that haven't done anything and the majority were acquired by trades.
My point is that championship/perennial contending teams are built through the draft. |

The point is that they haven't built through Free Agency.
"ZOMG THANKS FOR ARGEEING WITH ME LOOOLZZIES" - systemtool
The point is they havent built anything, it's a losing team.
Which is why you are most likely not going to see too many superstar ufa's sign here.
Not because if the media

You've already agreed with me, you've contradicted yourself, and now you are gettin so lost that you've now have to come up with insults. Typical.
The media isn't a massive reason as you originally said and have since agreed that it isn't.
So again, thanks for proving my point. Conversation is over - Fakepartofme
What?
Dude, calm down. Close your legs. Breathe.
The media/fan pressure is a massive factor, though not the biggest. Never contradicted this. Say hello to Horny, your pet Unicorn for me. |

Added to my last one... I believe that as long as Kessel got paid he was staying. If they had let Bozak walk but replaced him with say Stastny or RoR, kessel would have been more than happy. |

Correct.
Once you have a quality core of young talent and are creating a winning environment it's easier to attract other players.
Once toronto starts winning constantly, you'll see ufa's wanting to come here.
Cause the other factors won't matter as much |

That's fine, but you made a point that the Leafs build through free agency. I agree teams should be built through drafting, but your post I responded to said they built through Free Agency. They didn't.

We'll never know, but I believe Kessel was staying as long as he got paid, which he did. - Big_Lightnin
There's this thing called... wait for it: communication. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Bozak and Kessel (who signed 3 months later) had plenty of conversations all year long. The minute Bozak resigned, it was pretty clear that Kessel was going to stay; I'm pretty sure that was publicly known and discussed during the off-season and 24. |

I think trading Dion would help in this regard. Not due to ability, but I do believe having him as captain is a reason some players won't want to come here.

Not this year, but they've been in on as many top UFAs (who, thankfully, have said no for reasons we've been discussing) as they've signed over the years and it's never panned out for them.
These aren't cheap support players or adding a piece to put them over the top either, but core pieces they've tried to add and failed. |

Our core is void of free agents with the exception of maybe a couple of players. You can spin this any way you want, but earlier you suggested the Leafs are built through Free Agency, and they are not. Don't fight this, you said it, it was silly...now lets move on. |

It's funny that you say I'm being stupid, when the whole point of that post was to mock your "glad you agree, teehee" comments you were rolling with. You also said you were done with this conversation, but once again, there is a big divide between reality and what you say. |

That is if we do start winning, constantly: I don't think this core group gets us there. I think we'll make it to the dance once or twice before this group gets dismantled, but a Chicago or an LA this core ain't. |
