Someone on this website should really take the time to write a blog to explain one/two way deals and waiver exemption.

I got flammed on twitter for saying Tokarski would have to clear waivers this year to go to Hamilton despite having a 2 way contract.

- TimBits

A two-way contract only means he makes different money in the AHL than he does in the NHL.

I realize that.

I'm saying that a lot of people think 2-way contracts are somehow related to waiver exemption. They're two completely different things.

IMO, Connolly's waiver eligibility makes him a lock for Tampa, a la Barberio last season. Ready or not.

Saw this on twitter, makes me happy, im excited to see what he can bring

His time is up, time to make the team and stay or move on. If he doesn't make it or gets sent down in the first few weeks he'll never clear waivers. I'd like to see him make it and stay. I wanted Fowler back in 2010 because we needed D but he picked Connolly and left Skinner and Granlund on the table. You never know do you

Good depth veteran signing. Looks like we'll have 4 lines capable of scoring, and all 4 lines will be defensively responsible. They said they wanted to be harder to play against. I believe they are!

There is the veteran winger that Yzerman wanted to get. Once Panik resigns I think the Bolts are done and we are off to rookie camp and preseason camp. Can he still skate, our forwards are all good skaters if he can keep up he is a great add.

Brendan Morrow to the Bolts, one year, 1.55m.

Great veteran presence for the bottom six and a no-risk contract. Love it.

That'd be a one way deal......
- tomburton99

One-way deals mean a player gets paid the same amount whether in AHL or NHL

A player having to clear waivers to go to the AHL means he has crossed the age and/or games played threshold to be "demoted" without having to go through waivers

A player can have a 1-way deal but not have to clear waivers. Andrej Sustr is one example of this

Is this true, if he doesn't make the team after preseason he can go to Syracuse without waivers?
- stammerman

No it is not true. Connolly is not waiver exempt at any time

Morrow was a guy I wanted in Tampa last off season although I there was little chance with us finishing so low two years ago. I think he will really help out the young players in Tampa and help solidify the bottom 6. Doesn't have the skill he used to but can still be a useful player and a great mentor.
