I am actually really excited about Tryamkin though. Even if it will be a few years before we see him in NA

I think we will be getting that top 5 pick next year.
- VANTEL

Would be nice, barring any serious injuries, this team is a 7-10th in the West.

The video of his highlights is pretty exciting. It would be nice if we finally got a number one Dman. Him and Subban can play together on a top pairing

BY FAR THE BIGGEST POST I'VE EVER WRITTEN

Whereas I don't see the Nucks going anywhere I also have a hard time believing they would have qualified for a top 5 pick. I'd love to see a mid-season fire sale if they're sitting out of a playoff spot, but I think in reality we'll be picking in the middle of the draft.

As I said before, they could fuse body/skill and become a super-D. Really though I will just be happy to see him playing in our top 6 one day, keeping the net clear for once and stapling the odd DBrown into the boards

Had they not signed vrbata and miller and committed to playing the kids, it could have been a bottom 5 team.

Possibly, but there are still a bunch of bad teams out there. That said, I would have liked the 10 pick too and i'd like to get another 1st and another 2nd in next years draft.

Exactly. A couple more good prospects and the team is fine. If they can get an elite prospect, it will get interesting pretty quick.

I think Oilers could pass us this year. Top,6 looks good , upgraded the goalie , picked up a Dman as the team gets older and more mature

To be honest, I'm of mixed emotions about the new regime and it is trending downward.

I'll preface my opinion by saying that the team's new direction seems to be a joint decision of Benning, Linden and Aquillini. This decision of trying to compete now and transition towards youth is a mistake in my opinion. The time for competing for a playoff spot has passed. At this team's absolute best, it is a 6th to 8th seed. Even at it's best, it cannot compete in the playoffs past the first round. Therefore, I am of the belief that a total rebuild is necessary.

To that end, I would have put more emphasis on the 10th pick from the Ducks rather than the prospects. In fact, I would have liked the 10th and 24th pick without any warm bodies back. However, having said that, I thought the trade was adequate/serviceable. Not a great return but not a complete whiff.

I don't like the Vrbata and Miller signings. To me, all they do is make the team able to reach mediocrity. Unless, Benning is planning a huge trade deadline yard sale, I'm afraid of finishing 10th-14th. A team that is utterly unremarkable and gets draft picks that only yield 2nd line players and below.

What is patently obvious and said by others is the need for a true #1C in the pipeline. You can't trade for one. You need to draft one and the best way is to get a top 5 pick. The team is bad enough that had Benning done nothing, we could have had a top 5 pick next year.

Therein lies my biggest beef: the team was perfectly situated to tank for 1 season going into the best draft in a decade. You don't get a perfect storm like that often. Anyone who believes that this team can make the playoffs and compete with the top dogs in the conference is stupid enough to believe that the team could compete for the playoffs with rookies and youngsters. It's all how you market it.

Dallas traded for Seguin and Spezza. Both are arguably number 1 centres. So it's not unheard of. Not every kid drafted in the top 10 works out and later picks have been know to exceed their placement. Tanking is no sure method of success.

I really wanted Nylander. I think that kid has elite talent.

But did they? They sure have sucked a long time, so you'd figure their due, but they'll probably manage to (frank) it up again.

They still finished 16 points behind us last season dude. They'll need an awful lot to go right, and we'll need a repeat of last year's horror.

i shouldn't have been so absolute. it's virtually impossible to trade for one. and to do so, you will have to trade away several of the team's best young assets. Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

tanking gives no guarantees but given where the team is now and the way the draft is shaping up next year, i would tank.

This. You can get one, but not for spare parts. Ie. if you do not already have some solid top 6 type prospects/young players you do not have a chance

Aullie is garbage, Draisaitl and Nurse are kids so I expect about as much out of them as Horvat and Shink which is nothing. Purcell is another soft forward that they already have plenty of.

Sorry, just don't see it.
