what your saying is true but only because the players know they will get a penalty if they do it.
- Sammich

could always make it a discretionary call like diving. would be pretty obvious. if a guy does it under pressure, penalty. if a guy does it when he has all sorts of time... not so much. i think we just all feel the same when we see one of our guys whistled for it. and even when the call goes our way, it feels cheap.

I agreed wholeheartedly.

ya treat it like icing... No change. Would be much better, and takes, care of the issue of accidental ones... Not a big deal

fine, then make it illegal while on the PK and during the last 2 minutes of a period. but we all know that 90% of the calls are just accidental misplays. in most cases, the call is simply too harsh based on the action.
- DoubleDown

Even if it's a misplay though, it's a team failing to clear their zone because of pressure or fatigue. With no penalty, it then rewards that team by giving them a line change that they probably desperately need. With the penalty in place, you either have to clear your zone legitimately, get scored on, or take a penalty.

Maybe it's the morning fog-brain, but does it seem odd to anyone else that they signed their 3rd round pick from this year, Valiev, to an ELC already?

I don't get it

This, and I'd also make it the last 5 minutes of the period.

Really, it's pretty obvious. Hemmed in your own zone for the last 40 seconds and you dump it over the glass? Yea, that's a penalty.

I have always wanted Dubinsky. Thought he was always a good 2nd line player. But for 6 million over 6 years. Wow.

still think it should just be the same as,icing. No penalty, just can't change. Its essentially the exact same play when pressured. Makes no sense for one to be a penalty and the other not.

This idea of no line change makes some sense to me. It either has to be a penalty, or no line change. It can't be just a legal play, pucks will be flying over the glass all the time.

yup, and the icing rule has worked great. It is a clear advantage to get fresh guys against tired guys and many goals result from it, but the 5on3's that often result from puck over glass just feel dirty.

I don't mind it because it forces guys to really try to keep the puck in play when they are getting crushed in the defensive zone. It always sucks when a guy takes that penalty because we all know it wasn't intentional, but if they take away the penalty it will happen intentionally. It'll be like a quarterback throwing the ball away under pressure.
- Zezel

then why not just make it like icing? defensive zone faceoff, no line change?

they do need to start dealing the the delay of faceoffs after icings, though. But 10 secs isn't huge.
