Scouting Report

Attacks the game with a low and wide compact skating stance, using strong legs to stabilize in many situations, including one-on-one battles along the boards or around the net … A fearless player who will drive hard to the net, dig for pucks along the wall and in corners versus much larger opponents, Brown’s engine runs full throttle on every shift … controls the puck while moving at top speed and can blow by unassuming defenders in two steps to the outside … established himself as a lethal power play threat down low on the left side with a deadly one-timer he typically fires from down on one knee, or will draw defenders in, then set up teammates with laser sharp passes … has more than his fair share of ability to play the game at both ends, and an unselfish offensive zone mentality used in all situations on the ice including PK and critical defensive zone faceoffs in close games … possesses soft hands and a shot that he can put over a goalie’s shoulder with forehand or back hand … not overly powerful but quick and accurate … a very intense player who has dropped the gloves on occasion … will need to add to his 170lb frame to make an impact at the pro level, however the tools are there to accomplish many things when the frame fills out … Do not underestimate Connor Brown because of the size stigma or his draft position. The ceiling is very high.

Essentially he has a very high ceiling, but will likely need to add 20lbs to his frame to be able to REALLY compete. Despite that, he has a lot of talent and good compete level.

I hope he turns out to be good. He's one of my faveorite players. I have actually had the pleasure to watch him live 5 or 6 times this year. He is good. A very underrated prospect. If he turns out to a good which I think he will he can be a future captain. His leadership qualities are outstanding on the ice and off the ice.

Have the Leafs ever drafted a player this good in the 6th round? How about in any round?

Lately we have been drafting really well in the late rounds. Brown,Loov,Grannberg,Johnson. A while back we drafted Gunnar and Komorov late. Levio was a good pick. Rielly and kadri were both good. Our scouting staff is quite good. It's no Detroit red wings but we have done alright. But ya your right I think it's the first time since Kaberle since we drafted a player with this much potential in the late rounds.

I'm just teasing. I'm willing to take the heat for saying this but I haven't been this positive about the direction the team is going in for a long time. I'm just happy we're drafting players and actually having the patience to develop them. Its not something Ive seen in my life time as a Leaf fan

Ya the Ferguson JR era was just awful. The Burke ERA brought some life into the franchise now nonis and shanny seem to be on the right track.

I actually agree with this, I like what shanny has to say and hope they put more attention on draft and develop as oppose to free agent spending. When the time is right you can add the right pieces through free agents, but for now they need more coming from within then theyve had recently

We were on the right track a few years ago when we had more homegrown talent in our line up then we have had in a long time. Then last year we sign a few ufa's make a few trades and don't incorporate anymore of our youth into the lineup and we took a huge step backwards

I agree with what you lads are saying about Shanny and the direction he's taking the team and organization. The reality, though, is that this season could be very, very tough from a win/loss perspective. Having said that, though, all I really want to see this year is: a) that they compete, hard, every single night, and b) that they give some of their kids and younger players a real chance to earn jobs.

Add this to the talent we have and we will be a good team. Last year we had talent but we were so soft and so easy to play against. I got sick of watching every player on our team get pushed off the puck in the offensive zone and then make a half assed effort to get back. I'm glad we added some guys who go balls out and can play the cycle. I also hope a few youngsters make it to give us a boost of energy. Realistically Id like to see one more solid d man added and Franson shipped out and I can see this team doing some damage.

Maybe.

Van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Frattin - Holland - Nylander
Komarov - Kontolia - Sanorelli
Bodie

Where dose he fit? If Nylander dose not make it than Santorelli will be 3rd line and Bodie will fit in at 4th line RW.

- BoTtLePoLiCe

I see Seto fitting in as the #2RW. Clarkson is more suited as #3RW. I know means someone gets pushed out. Frattin can possibly fill that role but I'd love to see Seto get a shot. I don't see Nylander on the big club this season. Therefore....

Despite that, he has a lot of talent and good compete level.

bolded statement + 6th round pick

any guesses on a past (non-leafs) player that fits this criteria?

*hint I had no idea he was drafted in the 6th round.
