I could say the exact same thing about baseball. They could end tie games with a home run derby.

Baseball already has a strong base that supports the way the game is played. The networks are willing to work around them. In many parts of the US, hockey is still a fringe sport.

Thing is, baseball is losing support in the states. Don't be surprised if they do start looking at ways to draw more interest.

Rule 85 (“Overtime”)

During the regular season, the sudden-death overtime period will be seven minutes (7:00) in length, preceded by a “dry scrape” of the entire ice surface.

Teams will change ends at the start of overtime.

Full playing strength will be 4-on-4 until the first whistle following three minutes of play (4:00 remaining), at which time full strength will be reduced to 3-on-3 for the duration of the overtime period.

If the game is still tied following overtime, a winner will be determined by a three-player shootout.

I wonder how they will handle power plays... 3 on 2 or 4 on 3?

I don't like 4-on-4 OT, loser points, or deciding games with a lameout. I wish they would just do ten minutes of regular OT and have ties. What's better than next-goal-wins real hockey? I know they'll never go back at this point though.
