If he's 20, yes - Big_Lightnin
nope, just 19.
Maybe they think he has a chance at cracking the lineup?
Our NHL depth doesn't make that such a long-shot... |

4C depth and leadership for a young marlies team. Nothing wrong with that. - Big_Lightnin

And a funny little side-story to the book:
I recommended the book to my goalie. He was interested, because he has played a few times against Dave Bidini.
A few months later, my goalie is in the bookstore and sees the book, so he buys it and reads it.
Turns out my goalie is mentioned in the book - he was playing in the tournament Bidini writes about, and got into a tussle with him. Bidini describes it.
Small, funny world. - Atomic Wedgie
Looking forward to it. |

Depends.
If they hate ties, then yea, they might lose interest.
If they won't sit through continous overtime, then the ratings drop as the game goes on, and the advertising $$s don't look as nice for the league(and the networks might just cut away, pissing off everyone).
It's not our place to say what people should like about the game, or how they should enjoy it. It's the NHL's place to make decisions that they think will make the most money for their franchises, and their shareholders.
Catering to non- and casual fans, to expand their revenue base is exactly what they need to be doing to meet their goals. - Feeling Glucky?
If they hate ties, let them keep playing. I doubt people have a problem with continous OT because I don't see people leaving when it happens in the playoffs. If people like the game, they'll like to watch more of it. It seems to work in the other major sports.
I think as fans, it is our place to say what we like, especially the loyal fans. As for the casual fans, I think the NHL had to worry about it more after the lockouts but moving forward, the game should be strong enough to sell itself on it's merits rather than gimmicks.

Hope_Smoke @Hope_Smoke
To pick up on @mirtle's point earlier, hard to attract assistant coaches when everyone knows Carlyle's on hot seat. Not a lot of security
Neither one of them(RC/Nonis) will be with the leafs next summer...Why let them or is Shanny planning on looking for assistants again next summer... |

It's not selling the gimmick.
The gimmick is an exciting way to end the game quickly without a tie... that's all.
Ties are boring to people who don't know the intricacies of the game. And the playoffs are just a short part of the season. Imagine the scheduling nightmares with all the different networks if you had the potential for any one of 1230 games played in a season to go on for hours more than it's supposed to? |

Because the guys running the show deserve the chance to pick guys to work with. If you are going to give rc another year to show himself, he needs to be able to pick his assistants.
Only makes sense. |

Wouldn't that be more incentive to come because you could have a head coaching job out of it. |

aren't assistants usually fired with the coach?
I guess if it was the president picking, it'd be a different story. |

I could say the exact same thing about baseball. They could end tie games with a home run derby. |
