LOL Crosby scored 103 points in Therrien's system when he was still a kid. Not sure you're going to find a worse system than that unless you go back to Jagr vs Constantine......
- jmy_1

He had 120 the next year. I believe, the last to hit 120 points.

I was joking more than anything else with that last post. I actually agree with you, but I still like the guy and I can see him filling gaps here and there with injuries due to his speed and hands. He did quite well on Geno's wing last year before going down with injury. I still believe that if that injury hadn't of happened Gibbons would have never become a regular in the lineup and Megna would have a guaranteed roster spot coming into the season.

Yea, for sure, ya know.

Just let Megs take Adams spot for now and go from there :-)

Random thought of the day:

Does Kapenen satisfy the criteria we were looking for in drafting a non-vanilla forward? He was rated high but is there anything exciting about him? Is he Beau Bennett 2.0? Would we have been better off drafting Ho-Sang or Sherbak?

- YouMeAndDupuis9

I actually really wanted Ho-Sang. It's a shame our 2nd and 3rds were gone this season, since that is all it took for the Islanders to get that pick, maybe the Pens could have added another piece to get that as well (since the 2nd/3rds would have been later in the round). Although I'm probably just talking nonsense right now, I just wanted to see Ho-Sang on the Pens...

If they could have got Kapenan and Ho-Sang in the same draft?! That'd be awesome. You would think at least one of the 2 would pan out.

AHL rule change for OT: 7 min of 4v4 for first 3 minutes then 3v3 for last 4 minutes. Shootout now 3 rounds. I like it.

Ho-Sang will pan out and he will be a major thorn in our sides as a Dirty Der for years to come. Mark my words.

Be prepared for everyone to get a trophy little league style.

The AHL is the test ground for changes in the NHL.

Kopitar shut down Thorton, Getzlaf, Toews, on the way to the Cup and still led the playoffs in points.
- arh777

So you're starting a team and you're taking Kopitar ahead of Crosby?

Smart move, but I'd take Setoguchi over both.

I like Megnatron. I really only see 3rd line upside with him, though. He's a better version of Joe Vitale (more physical, mediocre hands) but isn't ever going to score a lot. His ceiling is Tyler Kennedy, IMO.
- YouMeAndDupuis9

Like the signing also and I agree he is a better version of Vitale but I think Vitale is more physical and Megna has better hands and instinct.

Agreed.

I'd vote 10 mins of 5 on 5. Ice may be an issue...

Shootout just like today.

Way to gimmicky for my taste. 4v4 was fine, I'm even ok with extending the overtime period because I think the shootout is used too much as it is in the AHL. I don't like it when the AHL tries to create an outcome by changing the situation like this. Let the teams sort it out.

Thats why I'm not a fan of the new helmet rule. They go from if the helmet comes off regardless of the reason the player can skate on (not counting the goalie of course) now they give a vague rule of if the helmet comes off the player must leave the ice immediately or get hit with a penalty. If it were me...im coming up with my arms to the players chin/face every chance i get to get them off the ice. If the AHL/NHL wants the helmets to stay on, have reebok or who ever develop new head gear.

The fighting majors and the new changes to major penalties i sort of get. I know the AHL wants to work fighting out of the game, unfortunately being from an AHL city WBS attendance will suffer greatly. This won't be the case in the NHL but the AHL serves to meathead random attendees in a lot of towns who only come for the fights. I get annoyed with fighting now more then ever and I'm not on a soapbox to never change anything in regards to fighting and hockey but in the AHL attendance will go down.

My cynical side however laughs at the Major Penalty changes because in many ways this is due to the zebras inability to control the games and let them get out of hand way to easily any more. The last 2-3 seasons here in WBS have given a fair share of games that the refs couldn't hold down the fort and allowed many games to get out of control before taking it back.

Keep it simple: 10 minutes OT of 4 on 4 and then if it's still tied, call it a tie. It's fair to all and none of that shootout BS.
